2. In People's Republic of China (PRC), except the Han nationality, all the other 55 legal ethnic groups are ethnic minorities. After the founding of New China, the Party and the government organized forces to distinguish between national names and nationalities in order to formulate and implement national achievements and realize the equality of rights of all ethnic groups.
3. Through efforts, scientists have made clear the basic composition of China's ethnic family and identified 56 ethnic groups. The smooth progress of ethnic identification laid the foundation for ethnic work.
4. On March 1 1 2008, the constitutional amendment adopted at the first session of the 13th National People's Congress stipulated in the first paragraph of Article 4 of the Constitution: "The state protects the legitimate rights and interests of all ethnic minorities and maintains and develops the harmonious relationship of equality, unity, mutual assistance and cooperation among all ethnic groups."
