Ji Hongchang, formerly known as Ji Hengli, was born in a poor peasant family in Lvtan Town, Fugou County, Henan Province. His father Ji Maosong opened a small teahouse in the town. Because of his poor family, Ji Hongchang helped his father in the teahouse since he was a child.
