Poetry Ouyang Xiu's poem "Thrushcross Birds"
The cries of thousands of birds echo their own hearts, and thousands of purple flowers on the mountain are on the height of trees. Only then did I understand that listening to the cry of the thrush locked in a golden cage is far less than singing leisurely in the forest.
This song "Thrushcross Birds" was also written in Chuzhou. Another title is "One County Zhai Wen Bai Tongue". BaiTongue is a thrush, so it is not in the mountains, but in an indoor listening cage. However, the whole poem does not describe how the thrush in "County Zhai" sings. On the contrary, the first two sentences describe the freedom and joy of thrush in the forest, "100 thousand sounds move at will, the flowers and purple trees are high and low", and they sing and indulge. This freedom and happiness is the true nature of birds, but it is the author's feeling. When Ouyang Xiu was in Chuzhou, he also wrote a 36-sentence poem "Singing Birds", which described the chirping of thrush, oriole, cuckoo and turtledove. The author lives in a lonely mountain city, and he feels that "flowers bloom and birds talk, and drunkenness makes friends with flowers and birds." "If you are drunk, you will be beautiful, lest birds fly and flowers fall." This realm of the poem "Birds Singing" is similar to the first two sentences of the poem "Thrushcross", but this poem is more subtle, and it rubs the author's social feelings into the aesthetic feeling of flowers and birds in Shan Ye, making people imperceptible and seamless.
Four or two sentences are recited backwards: "I just know that it is better to sing freely in the Woods than to be locked in a golden cage." Putting a thrush in a golden cage and hanging it in the study, although it is still a thrush, it is still a thrush singing, and that feeling is very different. You don't have to write how thrush chirps in the study cage; What is written is still the author's feelings, while the author's feelings focus on the fact that the caged birds have lost their true colors of "free movement" and "free singing". A disgraced official, the joy in the mountains, the self-control of the county Zhai, and his mood are different, so he can live in seclusion. Ten years later, Ouyang Xiu returned to Beijing through Yangzhou and Yingzhou, and became a bachelor of Hanlin. When he presided over a Jinshi exam, he wrote a poem "Singing Birds". Among them, the phrase "poor listening on the pillow is not like hearing in the mountains of Chuzhou" also pinned his mood when he was an official! Of course, once the image is shaped, its connotation will often exceed the author's mood when creating the image, so later generations will expand its meaning and turn the mountain birds and caged birds into a group of free and imprisoned artistic symbols, which will be more vital.
From an artistic point of view, the title of the poem is "A County Zhai Bai Wen Tongue", but the first two sentences exaggerate the joy of birds singing in the mountains, which lays a bright and spacious background from the opposite side. The more fully birds are described in Joy in the Forest, the richer the colors, the stronger the contrast between three or four sentences and the deeper the feelings.
