What does Wang Yangming's diligence say?

Diligence: Those who are determined to be gentlemen should naturally study hard. People who don't study hard enough must be because their ambitions are not deep enough. Those who learn from me, I will not be superior to talent and intelligence, but I will be noble than diligence and modesty.

You try to observe the students: if you have an empty stomach, pretend to be full; Obviously, I don't have much knowledge, but I pretend to be very knowledgeable, hide my shortcomings, envy the advantages of others, be self-centered and self-righteous.

If you cheat others with such words, even if that person is excellent, won't your classmates hate him or despise him? Even if he cheats others like that, will others really be cheated by him? Will someone not secretly laugh at him behind his back?

If a person is modest and silent about his own requirements, has an incompetent attitude, is determined to practice, is diligent in learning, likes to ask questions, praises the advantages of others and blames his own shortcomings; Imitate the advantages of others and expose your own shortcomings.

Loyal, faithful, amiable, and consistent in appearance, even if this person is incompetent and does not pursue superiority, will he really be considered incompetent? Does anyone disrespect him? Seeing these two people, you will know what attitude you should take to study.

Appreciate diligence

This article is selected from Volume 26 of Wang Wencheng Public Rights Book. When Wang Shouren was demoted to Cheng Yi, Longchang, Guizhou, he wrote four articles: determination, diligence, reform and kindness. The choice here is "diligence".

The article does not convince students from the front, but through positive and negative comparison, so that students can draw correct conclusions themselves, which is enlightening. The full text is concise and the sentence pattern is neat. It only takes two comparisons to clarify the problem, which is quite enlightening for the later study.
