The Southern Song Dynasty poet Lu You liked to write poems about cats very much.
Cats often appear in his poems, describing their shapes and habits, or expressing his love for cats. Lu You wrote in "Getting a cat in a nearby village to compose a poem in the name of Xue'er": Like a tiger, it can be related to trees, but it is like an owl that does not gather in the forest. But knowing that a mouse's hole is empty, there is no intention of becoming a fish's heart. The poem describes getting a cat named Cher and praises its hunting prowess.
In the poem "Giving a Cat", Lu You wrote: Wrap salt to welcome the little raccoon slave, and protect the mountain house with thousands of books. The poem expresses his love for cats and praises their protective effect on books. Lu You's "The Rats Have Been Defeated Again and Again, My Book Occasionally Got a Raccoon Slave to Kill It, Every Day the Group of Rats Is Almost Empty" writes: There is no one who pays for his service, and he strives to be fat and prosperous until he reaches the trough. In the Qing Dynasty, no matter how expensive the raccoon slave was, he could buy it for a penny and keep it. This poem describes the cat's ability to catch mice and expresses its praise for the cat.
There are many poems about cats in Lu You's poems, such as the raccoon slave sleeping under the quilt, but the rat is not heard ("Winter Night Reading"), but seeing the raccoon slave sleeping under the quilt, not knowing the rat is crossing the quilt. If you don't hear it ("Winter Night") and so on. These poems express his love and praise for cats.
