Things have to start with Lin 1907' s trip to Japan. After the failure of the Sino-Japanese War, the Qing government ceded Taiwan Province Province to Japan. The Japanese people launched a large-scale armed struggle against Taiwan Province Province, and the Japanese colonialists adopted a policy of genocide. According to the statistics of Wang Xiaobo, a historian of Taiwan Province Province, during the fifty years of Japanese occupation, as many as 650,000 people in Taiwan Province Province were killed on the island of Taiwan Province Province with a population of less than four million. In those days in Bloodstained, after the failure of the Taiwan Province compatriots uprising, they were unwilling to be enslaved by foreigners and could not find a way out, so they were depressed and confused. Lin, a noble son deeply influenced by China culture, is one of them.
1907, 27-year-old Lin heard that Liang Qichao (Liang Rengong), the leader of the Reform Movement of 1898, ran a newspaper in Japan. He wanted to hear his views on the future of Taiwan Province Province, so he took his secretary Gan Dezhong to Yokohama to see Liang Rengong, but he didn't see him for many days. When I was going back to Taiwan Province and passed through Nara, I met Liang Qichao unexpectedly in the hotel. Because of dialect problems, they can't understand each other's language, so they can only talk on paper. Lin poured out the misfortune of Taiwan compatriots and asked Liang Rengong how to resist Japan. Liang said frankly: "In the next 30 years, China will never be able to help the people of Taiwan Province fight for freedom. Therefore, Taiwan Province compatriots should not act rashly, but make unnecessary sacrifices. It is best to imitate the Irish's means to deal with Britain's own country, and foster prominent figures in Japanese central political circles, so as to contain the politics of the Governor's Office of Taiwan Province Province and not oppress Taiwan Province people too much "(Lin Memorial Collection, Volume 1).
Lin thought Liang Qichao's theory was very reasonable and immediately invited Liang Qichao to visit Taiwan another day. 19 1 1 In March, Liang Qichao visited Taiwan with his eldest daughter Ling Xian and his good friend Tang Juedun. Lin led the main members of Taiwan Province Patriotic Poetry Society-"Oak Society" to meet him in Keelung Port, and invited Liang Qichao to visit the Lin family in Wufeng, Taichung. During this period, they were engaged in armed anti-Japanese plans in Wuguilou and Linjia Garden. At the same time, he sang with Li's poetry friends and wrote hundreds of patriotic poems.
After more than 30 years, Lin led the people of Taiwan Province Province to carry out vigorous unarmed anti-Japanese struggles such as "parliamentary petition movement" and "cultural association movement", and retained the root of Chinese culture in Taiwan Province Province, becoming the Gandhi-style "father of the country" in Taiwan Province Province.
In 2007, Taiwan Province Wanjuanlou Book Co., Ltd. published Liang Qichao and Lin Letters edited and annotated by Taiwan Province scholar Xu Junya, and collected more than 50 color photocopies of their letters. Several of these letters first disclosed Lin Yu's trip to Beijing across the Taiwan Strait at the invitation of Liang Qichao in the spring of 19 13.
19 1 1 year, Liang Qichao returned to Japan after his trip to Taiwan Province province. In September, he indirectly sent a telegram to Yuan Shikai, inviting him to take the post of CFO in Beijing. He called Lin from Yokohama to borrow 1000 yuan, because the toll was not enough. Tang Xian immediately remitted 1000 yen, but he and his nephew, Lin Youchun, the founder of Oak Club, strongly opposed Liang Qichao as the chief financial officer of Yuan Shikai. Lin Youchun also wrote to persuade Liang Gong to cooperate with Sun Yat-sen Kuomintang in the south. 19 12 On June 26th, Lin mentioned in his letter to Liang Qichao that Lian Heng (grandfather Tang Ya of Lien Chan, honorary chairman of Kuomintang) returned to Chinese mainland from Taiwan Province province in March that year, and he had asked Lian Heng to bring 600 yen to Liang Qichao to improve his living conditions.
19 12 10 After Liang Qichao returned from Japan, he merged with some former constitutional monarchists to form the Democratic Party, attached to Yuan Shikai, the interim president who stole the achievements of the Revolution of 1911, and became the Minister of Justice of his cabinet. 19 13 At the beginning of this year, Liang Qichao wrote to invite Lin to visit Beijing. On the one hand, he thanked Lin for his financial support. On the other hand, he wanted to introduce some senior government officials to Lin.
Lin went to Beijing on March 9, 2003 at the invitation of Liang Qichao. Before leaving, he wrote in a letter to Liang Rengong: "I read the newspaper recently, and there is a great tendency to separate the north from the south ... I am afraid that rumors will continue, and the branches and leaves will cover the sky and harm the fundamental ears. Mr. Wang said that he was always in charge of concentration. Now if he can stick to this policy, he can take this opportunity to consolidate it ... He has lived in seclusion overseas for many years, and he regrets not getting a clear education. He has decided to throw everything away and travel to the west. The period of paying homage is not far away. " 19 13 At the beginning of this year, Yuan Shikai, with the support of imperialist powers, killed the Kuomintang and assassinated Song. The Kuomintang was forced to fight, and Sun Yat-sen and Huang Xing called on the southern provinces to launch a "second revolution" against Yuan, forming a trend of opposition between the North and the South. Lin, who longed for the reunification of the motherland and the recovery of Taiwan Province Province, was worried when he saw that after the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China split into two major forces, the North and the South. This is his original intention of going to Beijing to find out.
On March 19, before leaving, all the colleagues of Oak Club gathered in the boring thatched cottage of Lin Chixian (Lin), the founder of the Poetry Club, to bid farewell to Lin and his cousin Lin Zirui (Xu Dong). Lin Zhixian's "Xiang Chun (rhyming with Huang, sending a memorial hall to visit China and advocating the separation between the north and the south)" says: "Looking at the south of the Yangtze River, the soul flies to the railing. Bitterness and hatred are quite smoky, and people often faint outside the building during the day. Buy a sail and sail west, stay in your hometown and bid farewell to the last spring; Envy and friendship with all over the world, Long Yuan is not old, and heroism still exists. The future is detailed, Huangmei Festival is near, and people are at the meridian gate. Wu Dianzhong, unable to listen, Yu Di whimpered, blowing the wind and cloud. Human feelings are unpredictable, see that beans are fried to the same root. The water in the pool is wrinkled. Is it dry matter? Tears when injured, empty and wet scars. " (Collected Letters of Liang Qichao and Lin, page 154), between the lines is full of worries of Oak Club colleagues about the split between the north and the south of the motherland.
1965438+In early May 2003, Lin and Lin Zirui came to Beijing and were arranged by Liang Qichao at Jintai Hotel, No.240 Xiheyan Old Street outside Qianmen. Where was the Jintai Hotel in the early years of the Republic of China? Just as the author searched everywhere for no results, the enthusiastic Ms. Wu Xiaoshan (former director of the Propaganda Department of the Taiwan Affairs Office of Beijing) searched around and finally found out the ins and outs of Jintai Hotel. This new hotel, which was famous in Beijing a hundred years ago, was once a first-class hotel in old Beijing. Like an old man who has experienced many vicissitudes, he has witnessed great events and great men since the Revolution of 1911. Zhang Zhenwu, the hero of Wuchang Uprising, was tricked into Beijing by Yuan Shikai and killed. After entering Beijing, he stayed in this Jintai hotel. Xu Zhimo, a crescent poet who is famous at home and abroad for his poem Farewell to Cambridge, came to Beijing for the first time, was admitted to Peking University Preparatory College and stayed at Jintai Hotel. Peng, who was posthumously awarded as an army general by Sun Yat-sen, rented the carriage of Jintai Hotel to bomb Liang Bi, a powerful official of the Qing Dynasty, and died unfortunately himself. Today, the old streets along the Xihe River have long been withered and broken. Although the old house of Jintai Hotel exists, it has already been changed into "Chinese Feeding Hostel", which is privately contracted.
After Mr. and Mrs. Lin checked into Jintai Hotel, Liang Qichao did not visit them immediately because of his busy business, but sent someone to send five tickets to visit the Summer Palace. After the abdication of Xuan Tong Emperor Puyi (19 12), his summer resort, the Summer Palace, was also cancelled. Liang Qichao said in the letter of ticket delivery: "I will give five tickets to the Summer Palace (you can go at any time on the fifth day, and you must inform me in advance on the rest days). I hope to see the future in advance. I am here to introduce my brother Qi Chao. " It can be seen from this letter that not everyone can visit the Summer Palace at any time when it first opened. Liang Qichao, as the Minister of Justice of the Cabinet, naturally has this privilege.
In Beijing, Lin visited some officials of Yuan Shikai's cabinet on the recommendation of Liang Qichao. According to the author's analysis, it is very likely that Lin will meet with Xiong Xiling. Xiong Xiling is the Prime Minister and Chief Financial Officer of the Cabinet and has close ties with Liang Gong. Liang Qichao followed Kang Youwei, his mentor, and tried hard to realize constitutional monarchy in China, but he was frustrated repeatedly. After Yuan Shikai abolished * * * and restored the monarchy, he broke with Yuan completely and joined the anti-Yuan ranks. His change of position was also supported by members of Lin and Oak Society. Lin Liang's contacts in history, whether in the modern history of Taiwan Province Province or in the modern history of China, have become a much-told story and made special contributions to the anti-Japanese history of our compatriots in Taiwan Province Province.
