Characteristics of Enlightenment Literature

Enlightenment literature refers to the literature that prevailed during the Enlightenment in Europe in the18th century. Enlightenment literature has the following characteristics:

1. Anti-feudalism and anti-church ideological content: Enlightenment literature, as an important part of the Enlightenment, inherits and develops the anti-feudalism and anti-church tradition of Renaissance literature, with distinct political inclination and strong philosophical and social analysis.

2. Realistic writing methods: Enlightenment writers further developed their realistic writing methods. They advocate that literature should truly and typically reproduce social reality, deeply analyze and try to reveal various social contradictions, and at the same time emphasize the rationality of writers, requiring writers to observe society and think about problems from a rational perspective.

3. Rich and diverse literary forms: Enlightenment literature has made unprecedented achievements in genre, and new literary forms such as civic drama, drama, philosophical novel, epistolary novel and educational novel have emerged.
