Differences? 1. Differences in expression forms

Tang poetry is composed of five-character quatrains, seven-character quatrains, five-character rhymed poems, and seven-character rhymed poems. In short, there are mainly four or eight sentences, each with five or seven characters. However, when poets in the Tang Dynasty wrote poems, they also used ancient-style poems with relatively free sentence patterns. The number of sentences and words in ancient-style poems was very free.

Song Ci refers to the rhyme style popular in the Song Dynasty. The sentence pattern of Song Ci is regulated by the so-called Ci Pai, which has fixed sentence patterns and rhymes. Very few sentences in the entire poem have the same number of words, so Ci is also called long and short sentences. This shows the difference in form from poetry.

Song poems are more about describing inner emotions and touches. For example, Wen Tingyun's "The sycamore tree, the rain in the middle of the night, does not mean separation from love and true suffering. Every leaf, every sound, the empty steps drip to the light."

Difference 3. Differences in functional themes

< p>In fact, the biggest difference between Tang poetry and Song poetry is related to music. Words are lyrics. No matter what you write, they are all lyrics for singing. In other words, at least in the Northern Song Dynasty and the early Southern Song Dynasty, words served music. This is fundamentally different from Tang poetry which serves the author's expression of aspirations and feelings.

The junction of Tang and Song Dynasties is already a huge dividing line between two different eras in China, and Tang poetry and Song lyrics have been a substantial change. People in the Tang Dynasty pursued innocence and integrity of mind. People in the Tang Dynasty sang "Inaction leads to the wrong road, and children are stained with blood." The people in the Tang Dynasty were magnanimous and heroic, liberating their individuality. People in the Song Dynasty pursued unrestrained style, the satisfaction of life, and the release of individuality. The different mentality of people from two different eras has become the reason for the differences between Tang poetry and Song poetry.
