Why is the college entrance examination composition "not limited to style, except poetry"

Can I write poetry in the composition of the college entrance examination?

In the interactive session with the poet, many students raised their hands to ask questions, and one student asked all the guests on the stage. Under the current college entrance examination system, the composition of college entrance examination requires "no limitation on style, except poetry". "Since the style is not limited, why can't you write poetry?"

Wang Dongsheng, a special teacher and writer, replied that it is actually a kind of protection for poetry not to judge whether a poem is well written by scores. The number of words in the college entrance examination composition is generally about 800 words, and each line of 20 words needs about 40 lines. Judging from the form of poetry, the length of poetry is based on lines, not words. Modern poetry has many styles. Some poems will be divided into two or three lines in one sentence. There are also some ancient poems in five words and seven words, which are short in length and far from meeting the writing requirements of the college entrance examination.

Wang Dongsheng said that in all previous college entrance examinations, students still wrote poems under the requirement of "writing style is not limited, except poetry", and the teachers in the marking group still graded him after discussing their poetry recitation. If candidates take the college entrance examination for poetry, writing poetry in the college entrance examination is risky, but it is not hopeless.
