Spanish prose literature developed late, but it was also influenced by Arab culture. The earliest prose works were translated from the Arabic fable collection Kale and Dimunai and the story collection Sen Desbard (the Spanish translation is called The Experience of the Fooled Woman). All the above works were translated by the wise king Alfonso X (translated by Alphonse). The imperial court of Alfonso X gathered poets, historians, jurists and natural scientists of different nationalities and religions, and translated a large number of works in Arabic, Hebrew and Latin into Spanish, which promoted the development of Spanish culture and science. At that time, the main translations were chronicles, general history of the world, legal encyclopedias, astronomical knowledge and poems and songs written by the king in Galicia.
The most outstanding prose writer in this period was Juan Manuel (1282 ~ 1348). His famous work The Count of Lucknow has a unique style. The author tells a series of short stories that convince the world by way of dialogue, which is obviously influenced by Arabic literature. Spain's earliest knight novel "Knight of Sifar" also appeared in the first half of14th century.
