Du Fu wrote only "spring chives cut in the night-rain, Huangliang in the new kitchen" about leeks. It means: the spring leeks cut on rainy nights are tender and long, and they are just cooked and mixed with rice.

Creation background
This poem was probably written by Du Fu in the spring of 759, the second year of Tang Suzong Ganyuan, when he joined the army as a secretary in Huazhou. In the winter of the first year of Ganyuan (758), Du Fu was demoted to join the army as a secretary of Huazhou because of his help to save the house.
In winter, Du Fu took a leave of absence and went back to Luoyang, the eastern capital, to visit Lu Hunzhuang, his former residence. In March of the second year of Ganyuan, the division of Jiujidu was defeated in Yecheng, Du Fu returned to Huazhou from Luoyang via Tongguan, and Wei Ba's home was in Fengxian County, where Du Fu passed when he turned around.
In Fengxian County, Du Fu visited Wei Ba Chu Shi, a boyhood friend who lived in the countryside. Meeting once in a while, and saying goodbye in a hurry, has produced a sigh that most people in the era of chaos have been separated from each other and the world has changed, so I wrote down this emotional work and presented it to Wei Ba Chu Shi.
