"The history of Qilian Mountain grassland seems so bumpy and even cruel, but the essence of Qilian Mountain is absolutely warm and romantic. One of the Qilian Mountains is the ancient Xiongnu language, which means "Mountain of Heaven". Up to now, Yao Aoer, a direct descendant of the Huns who are nomadic here, still calls Qilian Mountain "Tengger Daban", which also means "Tianyue".
There is a grassland with the most abundant aquatic plants under Qilian Mountain, which is Tara (also called Huangchengtan, Huangchengtan and Dacaotan) in summer. It used to be Attila's pasture, the pasture of Uighurs and the pasture of Mongolian King Kuo Duan Khan in the Yuan Dynasty. In summer, Tara is a grassland with four distinct seasons and a pleasant climate. Liang Fen, a famous geographical work in Qing Dynasty, said: "The grass is beyond the frontier, but the inland is beyond." The author thinks this place is inland, because nomads and farmers were fighting for this area at that time. The Tibetan epic Gesar says that this grassland is the "Golden Lotus Grassland". Both the Maoer people and the Mongols called it "Xiatala", which means "golden pasture".
