There are five ancient poems related to the Mid-Autumn Festival: "Mid-Autumn Night", "Mid-Autumn Festival", "Feelings Under the Moon at Autumn Night", "Watching the Moon on the Fifteenth Night", and "Mid-Autumn Moon".
1. Mid-Autumn Night
Li Qiao [Tang Dynasty]
The cold sky above the round soul means that the whole world is the same.
How do you know that there is no rain or wind thousands of miles away?
Translation
A bright moon rises in the night sky. They say that the moonlight is the same everywhere.
How do you know that there are no violent storms and rains thousands of miles away?
2. Mid-Autumn Festival
Sikong Tu [Tang Dynasty]
Outside the leisurely singing of the autumn scenery, everything feels leisurely.
If there is no moon this night, the whole year will be like autumn.
Translation
Walking in the autumn night and singing softly in my spare time, I always feel empty, depressed and uneasy.
If there is no full moon tonight, this autumn will be wasted.
3. There is a pregnant woman under the autumn moon
Meng Haoran [Tang Dynasty]
The bright moon hangs in the autumn sky, moistened by the dew.
The startled magpies have not settled yet, and the flying fireflies roll in behind the curtain.
The cold shadows of the locust tree in the courtyard are sparse, and the neighboring pestle sounds urgently at night.
How long is the good time? Standing looking at the sky.
Translation
The bright moon hangs high in the autumn night sky, and the dewdrops reflected by the moonlight are crystal clear, as if they were wet by dew.
The frightened magpie didn’t know where to rest, and the fireflies followed the light and flew into the house from the roller blinds.
The only branches of the locust tree in the yard cast their shadows in the moonlight, sparse and desolate. At this time, the sound of pestles coming from the neighbors seemed so clear and urgent in the autumn night.
You and I are far apart. How can we agree on a date to get together? We can only look at the same distant moon melancholy for a long time.
4. Watching the Moon on the Fifteenth Night
Wang Jian [Tang Dynasty]
Crows roost on the white trees in the courtyard, and the cold dew wets the sweet-scented osmanthus silently.
Tonight, when the moon is bright and everyone looks around, I don’t know who is missing my autumn thoughts.
Translation
Magpies and crows live on the snow-white trees in the courtyard, and the autumn dew silently wets the sweet-scented osmanthus in the courtyard.
Tonight everyone is looking up at the bright moon in the sky. I wonder whose house this autumn longing falls on?
5. Mid-Autumn Moon
Yan Shu [Song Dynasty]
Ten rounds of frost shadows turn around the courtyard, and people are alone in the corner this evening.
It may not be that Su'e has no regrets, the jade toad is cold and the sweet-scented osmanthus is lonely.
Translation
Under the moonlight, the shadow of the sycamore tree moves unconsciously as time goes by, still facing the corner alone on this reunion night.
Chang'e in the Moon Palace may not feel regretful now. After all, the only ones accompanying her are the cold Moon Palace and the lonely laurel tree.
