Introduction to Gu Cheng:
Originally from Shanghai, he was born in Beijing in 1956. His father was Gu Gong, a famous poet at the time. The "Cultural Revolution" began when he was only 10 years old. Two years later, he was sent to a farm in northeastern Shandong with his father. While herding pigs, he also loved collecting insect specimens. There he wrote his first collection of poems, "The Little Nameless Flower". He also compiled a collection of metrical poems "A Dream of White Clouds".
In 1973 (17 years old), he returned to Beijing with his father and worked as a carpenter, porter, seconded editor and other temporary workers for a period of time.
He began publishing works in 1979, which had a great influence on young readers. He also caused controversy with "Far and Near" and "Arc", and is regarded as one of the main writers of misty poetry. . In 1980, he participated in the "Youth Poetry Conference" with "Six Small Poems", which once again aroused controversy, thus triggering the six-year "Misty Poetry Controversy".
In 1981, he won the "Star Poetry Award" for "Ten Lyric Poems". In addition to "Selected Lyric Poems of Shu Ting Gucheng", "Selected Poems of Beidao Gucheng" and "Selected Poems of Five People", his poetry collections also include "Black Eyes", "Remy", "City", "Mercury", etc.
