At the age of four, he was inspired by his father and began to learn the violin. He entered the Liege Conservatory of Music before 1865, and then entered the Paris Conservatory of Music on 1873, where he studied under the Polish violinist and composer Henryk Wieniawski (1835- 1880) we introduced last time. And in 1876-79, he went to Brussels to study with henri vieuxtemps [Belgian violinist and composer].
1879 joined a Berlin orchestra as the chief, and was deeply appreciated by joseph joachim [Yao Axing (183 1- 1907), a violinist, conductor and composer]. 1882 performed in northern Europe with anton rubinstein [Russian composer and pianist Rubinstein (1829- 1894)], and then toured Russia. He himself said that he was influenced and taught a lot by Rubinstein during this period, and then he often performed in different forms (including solo, conductor and chamber music). 1883- 1886 he moved to Paris, where he met many famous musicians at that time, including Cesar Frank [Franck, Cesar], Ernest Chausson [Song], Vincent D. Indy [Dandy], faure gabriel [Frey] and Camier Saint-Sang [Saint-Sang]. Because he was the most famous and outstanding violinist at that time, these composers wrote music titles for him respectively. Including Cesar Frank's violin sonata, Ernest Chausson's poem, violin concerto and Claude Debussy's string quartet.
He taught at the Brussels Conservatory of Music 12 years and devoted himself to the development of French and Belgian music. During the period 19 18-22, he was the conductor of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. At the same time, he also brought French and Belgian music here, so that the orchestra that only played German novels, poems and literary works at that time could try French and French music. 1922 returned to Brussels and was in poor health afterwards. Because of diabetes, he was even forced to cut off his right leg at 1929. But he conducted several performances in the following year (1 1), and the last one was performed by Pablo casals [casals, cellist]! However, what he wanted to conduct most was his own opera, but he fell ill on the first rehearsal day, and even failed to attend the first performance in his hometown of Liege (19365438+March 4th, 0). In the second performance, he went to Brussels to enjoy it, and he died a few weeks later.
In addition to this opera, he also composed six unaccompanied sonatas for violin, reverie for cello and orchestra (op. 16) and nocturne (op.22), eight violin concertos and some novels, poems and literary works for violin.
The most commonly used violin in Sha Yi's life is a "Del Jesus" violin of Guanari. He once owned a Stradivari violin called Hercules, but he lost it in the backstage lounge when he was performing in 1908 Russia. This famous violin was not discovered in Berlin until 1947.
1937 The international violin competition named after him was established in Brussels. The first champion of this competition is now the famous violin master David Oistrakh. Now, the name of this competition has been changed to "Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition", which provides four categories: violin, piano, vocal music and composition. Musicians born in Taiwan Province won the competition, including Hu Naiyuan (gold medal in violin category), Zeng (silver prize in violin category) and Huang Ruifen (bronze prize in vocal music category).
