Vietnamese navy (Vietnamese: h? I bend? n Vi? T Nam), founded in 1955, is an offshore defensive maritime force with light equipment as the main body.

The total strength of the Vietnamese navy is 42,000 (including 30,000 marines) and it is divided into four coastal areas.

The navy's active main battle equipment includes 2 pocket submarines, 6 Kilo-class conventional submarines, 5 frigates, 6 light frigates, 45 patrol boats, missile boats and torpedo boats, 36 amphibious warships, 13 hunting/minesweeper, 18 military auxiliary ship and 125 ship. The main battle aircraft includes two M-28 maritime patrol aircraft and three Be- 12 long-range anti-submarine patrol aircraft.
