Husband and wife are "masters of translation" in modern China. Who is this man cursed by his mother before marriage?

"In the early days, I went to the nether world, but I lost my health halfway. I am used to being poor, humble and sleepy. The company of youth makes many ghosts, and the bald head is mine. If heaven is sentimental and old, it has never been divided into silver and China people. " This mourning poem was written by Mr. Yang, a famous translator in China. At that time, his beloved wife had just died. They took care of each other for nearly 60 years, and they still loved each other as usual in their later years. And his wife, Dai Naidie, is English, which adds a touch of exoticism to this relationship.

Yang, a native of Tianjin, was born in 19 15 12, and his father is the president of this bank. His family is very rich and he loves literature. 1934 came to Oxford University in London, England at his own expense, and became the president of the China Association of the university. Three years later, Yang met the love of his life.

Originally known as Gracie Margaret Taylor, Yang later gave her a Chinese name. Her father was an English missionary, and Dai Naidie was born in Beijing, so she has a keen interest in the traditional culture of China. Because of this, she was attracted by Yang and fell in love with him deeply.

Dai Naidie's mother Serena is a religious person. She went crazy when she learned that her daughter fell in love with a porcelain. To this end, she cursed them viciously: if you insist on getting married, it will not come to a good end. Your marriage won't last four years, and your future children will definitely commit suicide.

Her mother's words broke her heart, but she loved Yang, so in 1940, she followed Yang back to China without hesitation and became his wife. At that time, China was in the midst of war, the people were miserable, and everything they saw was devastated. In order to make a living, the couple ran around in various cities until 1943 entered the National Compilation Hall and became an interpreter.

Due to the combination of Chinese and western cultures, Yang's translation work is very smooth. Literary masterpieces such as A Dream of Red Mansions, Sword of Purple Tongzhi and Scholars have all been translated into English by the couple. No matter work or life, both of them have a tacit understanding. Later, I gave birth to a son and two daughters for Yang, and their lives were very happy.

However, in 1968, Yang Hedu was arrested and imprisoned for the "British spy" case, and the originally peaceful and happy family life was shattered. Their favorite son, Yang Ye, was also implicated. After he went to prison, he suffered from mental illness. His two daughters live in poverty in other places.

It was not until 1972 that the family was released from prison. At this point, Yang Ye's mental state has been very poor. He became autistic and taciturn, and shut himself in his room every day. 1975, Yang Ye, who was only 36 years old, set himself on fire and died. He is a young man with outstanding talent in mathematics and poetry, but he ended up like this.

The death of his son brought a great blow to He Yang, especially. She remembered her mother's words when she left England and burst into tears. Although their firm love broke the curse of "four years", they failed to save her son's life.

Life was so hard that Dai Naidie, who was in his 80s, became depressed and fell ill, and finally got Alzheimer's disease. In the last days, Yang never gave up, taking care of his wife like a child, feeding her and talking to her. Until1999165438+10/8, accompanied by Yang, he quietly closed his blue eyes.

After his wife died, Yang stopped all translation work. He spent all his time in his residence in Beijing to commemorate the time when his wife met them. Until 2009, when Yang died of illness, the two "translation masters" who made countless contributions to China literature finally reunited in heaven.
