Fourteen-year-old Tan Sitong, on his way from his hometown in Hunan to his father's office in Lanzhou, Gansu, passed through Tongguan, Shaanxi, enjoyed the magnificent scenery of the northern mountains and rivers and pretended to write this poem. Tongguan is located at the junction of Shaanxi, Shanxi and Henan provinces, with Huashan Peak in the south and Yuxi Plain in the east. The poet immediately entered the city and saw the Yellow River running down from the northern plateau canyon, suddenly turning at the foot of the cliff and heading for the flat and vast Yuan Ye. But the momentum has not eased, and the riverbed is still too tight. However, the continuous peaks are not prominent in Kanto. As soon as they entered Tongguan, they suddenly soared into the sky. The so-called narrow rivers and uneven mountains are psychologically induced by the majestic momentum of the Yellow River and Huashan Mountain, which reflects the poet's heroic passion and desire to break through the feudal shackles and pursue ideological emancipation, and conforms to the rising trend of social change in China at that time.
