Who is the author of The Book of Songs?

The author of The Book of Songs is unknown. It was collected by Yin Jifu and edited by Confucius. At first, it was just called "Poetry" or "Poetry 300". In the Western Han Dynasty, it was regarded as a Confucian classic and called The Book of Songs. There are three kinds of editors in The Book of Songs: style, elegance and ode. "Wind" is a ballad of Zhou Dynasty. Elegant music is the official music of Zhou people, which is divided into harmony and elegance. Ode is a musical song used for sacrificial rites in Zhou and noble ancestral temples, which is divided into ode to, and ode to Shang.

Yin Jifu (852-775 BC) was born in the Western Zhou Dynasty (now Nanpi, Cangzhou). The name of is Jia, and the father of Zi () is the official name of Yin. Yin Jifu, minister of Zhou Xuanwang, is said to be the main master, strategist, poet and philosopher of The Book of Songs, and is known as the ancestor of China's poetry. Yin Jifu was exiled to Fangling (now Fangxian) in his later years, and was buried in Qingfeng Mountain in Fangxian after his death. There are many Yin Jifu cultural relics in Fangxian County. He assisted three generations of emperors, and later Zhou Youwang listened to slanderers and killed him. I soon knew this mistake, so I made him a golden head as a grand burial. In order to prevent grave robbery, twelve tombs were built in the east of Fangxian County.
