Seeking the Interpretation of Terms in Western Music History: Hymns
Due to the religious reform in the late Renaissance, the Protestant movement in Germany made great contributions to the development of German music. Chorus is the core school of German Protestant music. Hymns, that is, Protestant hymns, are the most important musical and cultural achievements in the German Reformation. The difference between it and Catholic hymns is that its hymns are no longer sung in Latin, but translated into German. Most of the tunes are ancient German hymns and folk songs, and some tunes are adapted from Gregorian hymns. At first, the chorus was mainly a one-part chorus, and later it was a four-part chorus with the melody in the high-pitched part.
