The Original Text and Appreciation of Huang Tingjian's Poem of Jingzhou Medicinal Names

Huang tingjian

Before and after the lake, Pinellia ternata is cool in early summer;

The dream is broken at night, and a wild goose is in Hengyang.

This poem was written in Jingzhou. During the Northern Song Dynasty, the state ruled Jiangling City, Hubei Province. This place is very hot in summer. The first sentence says that the location of your accommodation is good and the environment is beautiful. The front lake and the back lake are accompanied by water, clear blue waves, and the breeze blowing from the lake makes people feel cool and tired. The second sentence says, here and now, I am drinking a cool drink-Pinellia Dew, and I am ecstatic, so fast! Pinellia ternata is a traditional Chinese medicine, which is wild in the west, north and Yangtze River valley of China. Its dried tuber is called "raw Pinellia ternata", which is toxic; The name of the person being treated is "Pinellia ternata". Pinellia ternata is cool and pungent. It is used to eliminate dampness and phlegm, regulate stomach and stop vomiting, and is mainly used for phlegm-dampness drinking, cough and asthma, fullness of chest and diaphragm, vomiting and loss of appetite. In summer, it can be distilled to make summer drinks. These two sentences describe the experience during the day, closely follow the seasonal characteristics, focus on lake water and drinks, and highlight the feeling of "cool". These two sentences were rewritten by the inspiration of "The night of Yaotai is as cold as water" in Autumn Night. In terms of artistic form, Jiangxi Poetry School emphasizes reading more books, achieving "no words and no place", and advocates "turning iron into gold" and "robbing the fetus for bones", which can be seen here.

Write three or four sentences about the night experience, "Ye Xiang's dream is broken". Late at night, I had a sweet dream, but this sweet dream was shocked by the dream itself. What kind of dream? It is "a wild goose spends Hengyang". It turns out that there is a Yan Hui Peak in Hengyang. Legend has it that the wild goose flies north and south, but it can't reach the peak at this time. So in ancient times, Hengyang Goose was cut off, which was a metaphor for news and news. However, in this poem, the author skillfully uses this allusion. He said that the night was as cold as water, and he slept so comfortably that his dream was overdone. A wild goose broke the routine and flew over Yan Hui Peak, which meant that his sweetheart's letter came unexpectedly and he was suddenly awakened. Good dreams are broken, and I can't help but feel ridiculous. As a result, the cool summer nights in Jingzhou and the deep yearning for the right person have been vividly transformed into vivid images. This shows the author's artistic skills. Huang Tingjian opposes vulgar tunes, is still curious, likes to use awkward styles and is unique, which can be seen here. It is no accident that he became a great master at that time, which opened up a new road for Jiangxi Poetry School.

To the reader's surprise, the poet embeds the four drug names of "Thousand Households", "Pinellia ternata", "Lan Xiang" (Lan Xiang homophonic) and "Du Heng" (Du Heng homophonic) into four sentences, calling himself "Poetry of Drug Names", which is naturally traceless. What is even more incredible is that the poet didn't play with words, and he didn't use words to hurt others. In his writing, he expressed his appreciation of the summer in Jingzhou and his love for the right person, which is very rare. The four TCM terms are integrated with other words, serving the theme of the poem, showing no weakness and no flaws, which shows the author's clever use of language. When the name of the drug was revealed, the reader had to smile, be moved by it and fall for it.
