The position of ancient Roman literature in the history of European and American literature development

The original concept of "man" in ancient Greek literature had a far-reaching influence on later western literature through ancient Roman literature and became one of the main sources of humanistic tradition in western literature. In the later Renaissance and classicism, people in the Renaissance started this famous movement with the slogan of reviving Greek literature and based on the consciousness of life, humanity and freedom. Classicism inherited the idea of Renaissance, and took the literature and art of ancient Greece and Rome as a model in creative practice and theory.

As the source of European literature, there are many kinds of ancient Greek and Roman literature, including myths, epics, tragicomedy, fables, lyric poems, essays and novels. Although some literary styles are not mature enough, they provide examples for later European literature. The realism and romanticism in ancient Greece and Rome laid the foundation for the later development of European literature.
