There are no poems that directly describe people's fear of the severe cold. The ancients usually used the scenery to blend their feelings, and pinned people's feelings of not being afraid of the severe cold on plants that are not afraid of the severe cold. The poems that are not afraid of the severe cold are as follows:
1. "Plum Blossom" - Wang Anshi, Song Dynasty?
There are several plum blossoms in the corner, and Ling Han blooms alone.
I know it’s not snow from afar, because there is a faint fragrance coming.
Translation: There are a few plum blossoms in the corner, braving the severe cold and blooming alone.
Why do you know that the white plum blossoms are not snow when you look at them from a distance? It is because of the faint fragrance of the plum blossoms.
2. "Shengchazi·Chongyemei" by Xin Qiji of the Northern Song Dynasty
Wearing this body in the ice and snow forest, it is different from peaches and plums mixed with fragrant dust.
Translation: White plum blossoms grow in the cold winter of ice and snow. They bloom proudly and are not to be confused with peach and plum flowers.
3. From the Song Dynasty Yan Shu's "Butterfly Loves Flowers·Chrysanthemums on the threshold are worried about the smoke orchids and weeping dew"
The chrysanthemums on the threshold are worried about the smoke orchids and weep the dew, the curtain is light and cold, and the swallows fly away.
Translation: The chrysanthemums outside the fence are shrouded in a layer of sad smoke, and the orchids soaked in dew seem to be crying silently.
4. From "Shengchazi·Double-leaf Plum" by Xin Qiji of the Song Dynasty
The flowers are blooming on the heads, and they can be seen in the ice and snow.
Translation: Plum blossom, you bloom before the flowers bloom and appear in the cold.
5. The cold flowers have all bloomed, and the chrysanthemums are only full of branches.
——"On the Nine Days in Yun'an, Zheng Shiba Brings Wine to Accompany the Officials at a Banquet" by Du Fu of the Tang Dynasty
Translation: When winter comes, all the flowers fall, and only the chrysanthemums bloom alone .
