Born in Harbin on November 17th, 1948, he attended primary school in Chengdu, middle school in Xichang, Liangshan, jumped the queue in Yan 'an, worked as a herdsman and storekeeper in the horse farm of Fuxian General Logistics Army, and later worked as a worker, secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of the factory, creator of the art troupe and news reporting officer. In 1978, he was admitted to the university, won the National Poetry Award and joined the Chinese Writers Association. In 1982, he was assigned as editor, deputy editor and editor-in-chief of Star Poetry Journal of Sichuan Writers Association for 12 years. In 1994, he was transferred to the Department of Literature and Art of Beijing Broadcasting Institute as the head and professor. In 1995, he was transferred to the Chinese Writers Association as the deputy editor, executive deputy editor, editor and editor of Poetry Journal, and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese Writers Association.
Qi Jin has officially published his personal monograph. There are poems such as No Regret (1983), Duet (1985), Milk Spring (1986), Meditation of the Heart (1986), Prisoner and Dove (1988), Selected Poems of Ye Yanbin (1988) and Between Heaven and Hell (between Heaven and Hell). He has won the Poetry Award of Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Poets of Chinese Writers Association (1979-198), the Third China New Poetry Award (1985-1986) and more than 4 national and provincial literary and artistic awards, such as October Literature Award, Sichuan Literature Award, Beijing Literature Award and Guo Moruo Literature Award.
