According to Notes on Chronology of Complete Works of Li Bai, this poem was written in Tianbao four years (AD 745) of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty, Li Bai was forty-five years old and Tianbao three years (AD 744). Hanlin sacrificed Li Bai and got back the gold, so some negative emotions inevitably appeared in his later poems. Li Bai, a poet, was most influenced by Taoism. So in this poem, Li Bai reveals that life is short and expresses the idea of eating, drinking and having fun.
