Why is Xianyou called Xianyou?

According to Records of Xianyou County and Fujian Tongzhi, more than 2,000 years ago, Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty said that nine Ho brothers in Linchuan, Jiangxi Province went to Jiuli Lake to make an alchemy, and Dan Cheng ascended to heaven by nine carp, hence the name "Xianyou". Xianyou county has a long history, and many Neolithic fossils have been excavated, which show that human beings lived and multiplied here as early as three or four thousand years ago.

Xianyou is located in the middle of the southeast coast of Fujian Province. The county is 49 kilometers wide from east to west and 63.4 kilometers long from north to south. It is close to Meizhou Bay, Xiuyu Port, 30km from Fuzhou, the provincial capital, 53km from Xiamen, the special economic zone, 44km from downtown Putian and across the sea from Taiwan Province Province, the treasure island. The total area of the county is 1835 square kilometers, accounting for 44% of Putian city. There are "seven mountains, one water and two fields" in the territory, including 2.037 million mu of mountains, 426,000 mu of cultivated land, 0/0.777 million mu of woodland and 3,085 mu of beaches.

Xianyou has beautiful mountains and rivers and pleasant climate. The overall terrain of the county follows Mulan River, which is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, forming a horseshoe shape. Coastal areas, plains and mountains are completely different. The famous East-West Plain is a land of plenty and sugar, and Xingtaili in the northeast corner and Xianyou Mountain in the northwest corner are famous rare forest areas.
