Appreciation of "Poems Dedicated to the Countryside" in "Selected Poems of Ai Qing"

Delicate depictions and deep emotions.

In 1985, the poet returned to his hometown, Jiangcun, Gantian. He visited this small village and his fellow villagers. He also visited Dayanhe’s son Jiang Zhengyin, a short but strong old man. The two held hands and were as close as brothers.

Hometown has always occupied an important position in the poet's heart. After he left his hometown at the age of 15, no matter where he wandered, no matter what hardships he encountered, every plant, tree, mountain and water in his hometown always appeared in his heart and gave him warmth.

Whenever the poet misses his hometown, his heart is like a reservoir filled with water that opens its gate, and the mellow feelings gush out. In 1942, the poet was in Yan'an. When he thought of his hometown again, he could no longer suppress the burning emotions like flames. He poured out and wrote "Poetry for the Countryside" to dedicate it to his hometown and his hometown. To the mountains and rivers there, to the fathers and villagers there.

In the poem, the poet thought of everything there - the trees there, the ponds there, the orchards there, the stone wells there, the creeks there, the wooden bridges there, the open fields there, The houses there. I also think of the old people there, the farmers there, the shepherd boys there, the child brides there, the tenants there, the carpenters, stonemasons, plasterers, butchers, blacksmiths, tailors there... "Thinking of all these people who are tortured by poverty - They work hard all year round and never get their due reward.
