Poetic background
Du Mu's "Bo Qinhuai" was written in Tianbao period of Tang Dynasty (742-756), when he worked in Jiangning (now Nanjing). He once berthed on the Qinhuai River, enjoyed the scenery along the Qinhuai River and lamented the passage of time and the shortness of life. Once this poem came out, it was widely praised and became a classic in Tang poetry.
Poetry analysis
The first sentence of the poem, "_ _ cold water moon _ sand", depicts the night scene along the Qinhuai River. It is full of smoke, the river is cold, and the moonlight shines on the beach, giving people a cold and quiet feeling.

The fourth sentence "Singing backyard flowers across the river" expresses Du Mu's feelings about reality. He heard someone singing backyard flowers on the other side, and felt that he was old, and his life had come to an end, and he could never return to his dreams and pursuits when he was young.
