The Story of Academician Jiangmen

At present, there are 32 academicians of the two academies (China Academy of Sciences and China Institute of Technology) who were born in Jiangmen, the hometown of overseas Chinese, and 25 are alive, which is very rare in prefecture-level cities in China.

Among the 32 academicians in Jiangmen, there are Liang, a famous missile control expert, Chen Huanyong, a botanist who is one of the pioneers and founders of modern plant taxonomy in China, Huang Naizheng, an organic chemist, an expert in rice genetics and breeding, and an expert in general surgery. Among them, the most famous are the "three brothers of Liangmen": the eldest brother Liang Sicheng, the second child Liang Siyong, and the fifth brother Liang. Their father is Liang Qichao, a great master of modern Chinese studies in China.

According to experts who study overseas Chinese culture, Jiangmen is the first hometown of overseas Chinese in China. There are many folks living in Hong Kong, Macao and overseas, and they have frequent exchanges with overseas personnel and information, which is a precedent.

In 2004 10, in order to commemorate the outstanding contribution of Academician Wuyi in Jiangmen and express my hometown's respect for the academicians, the first "Academician Road" with the theme of academicians from the two academies was named in the northern new district of Jiangmen City. On both sides of this "Academician Road", artistic statues of Academician Wuyi in Jiangmen were set up, each of which was more than two meters high and consisted of busts and pedestals. Each surviving academician also carved a pair of handprints on the pedestals.

It is reported that although many academicians are old and in other places, they often bridge the gap for the construction of Jiangmen, their hometown. In the past three years, almost all of the more than 20 surviving academicians have visited their hometowns, and 23 academicians have been hired as science and technology consultants in Jiangmen.
