Whole poem
Jiangxia bid farewell to Song Dynasty
The water in Chuzhou is crystal clear, as if it were empty, as straight as the distant sea.
You and I will be thousands of miles apart, but there is this cup of wine in front of us.
The valley bird keeps crying when it is sunny, and the river ape is sad at night.
I have never shed tears in my life, but now I do.

translate
Chu's water is crystal clear, as if it were empty and directly connected with the distant sea.
You and I will be far apart, but our interests are in the same glass of wine.
When the sun is shining, the birds in the valley are still singing, but at night, the apes on the river bank will cry.
I have never cried in my life, but now I can't stop crying.
Creation background
This poem was written in the 20th year of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (734). Yu Xianhao once wrote this poem "Doubtful Year", which proves that Song Zhiti is Song's younger brother and Song Ruosi's father. According to the life story of Song Zhiti, this poem was written around the twentieth century of Kaiyuan. During the Kaiyuan period, Song successively served as general You Yulin, chief minister of Yizhou, our envoy of Jiannan, and Yin of Taiyuan, and was later demoted to Jiaotoe (now Hanoi, Vietnam). Li Bai and Song Zhiti have a deep friendship. Later, his son Song Ruosi released Li Bai's prisoner in Xunyang and cleared the snow for him, which was probably related to family friends. This poem may have been written by Li Bai in Jiangxia (now Wuchang, Wuhan), before Song Zhi Zhi went to Jiaotoe to be relegated to the government.
