Bai Juyi once loved many women, among which Xiangling seems to be the "good looks" he misses most. The relationship between Xiangling and Bai Juyi occurred in the twelfth year of Zhenyuan (796) when Bai Juyi returned to Liv to mourn his father. Bai Juyi was 25 years old at this time. Bai Juyi wrote many poems to recall their association.
During the sixteen-year journey of Zhenyuan, Bai Juyi wrote "To Xiangling", which shows that Bai Juyi really cherishes his feelings for Xiangling: his eyes are cold and he turns back every time he passes a high place. If you don't know each other in the distance, you will lean against the railing and worry alone.
In the 19th year of Zhenyuan (803), Bai Juyi's book was awarded the champion, and the following year it was awarded to the school librarian. On the solstice night of this winter, Bai Juyi wrote this poem in Chang 'an, entitled "Hu Aixiang Ling's solstice night in winter": unbelievably beautiful and unbearably cold. What is the longest night? Everyone sleeps alone.
In the twentieth year of Zhenyuan (804), Bai Juyi and Xiangling secretly said goodbye. Bai Juyi wrote a poem "Qianli" to comfort Xiangling: Don't cry, Qianli. Nothing to say, dark acacia. No one knows outside the heart. A solitary bird locks a deep cage at night, and a sword breaks branches in spring. Although the river is cloudy and sunny, aconite is black and white. There is only seclusion and dark separation, and there is no end to each other.
Song of Eternal Sorrow tells the eternal love between Xuanzong and Yang Guifei, their future, Xuanzong's grief after losing his imperial concubine, and Yang Guifei's yearning for Xuanzong in the celestial world. Soon after it was written, it was appreciated by scholars and praised by the court, and it was widely circulated among the people.
Song of Eternal Sorrow describes that they have been inseparable for almost thirteen years since Xuanzong Enze Yang Guifei. Bai Juyi ignored the cause and process of the Anshi Rebellion, but focused on rendering where you will go and Xuanzong's Love in the Morning and Night.
