Brief introduction of Jian' an poems

On the one hand, Jian 'an poetry inherits the tradition of Han Yuefu folk songs, on the other hand, it develops and transforms them.

As far as inheritance is concerned, the five-character poem form produced from Yuefu folk songs in Han Dynasty was widely used by Jian 'an poets and developed into the most basic poem form in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties. The language style of Yuefu folk songs also has a great influence on literati poetry. Moreover, works that adopted Yuefu poems and followed the common themes in Yuefu folk songs accounted for a large proportion of literati poems in this period.

As far as development and transformation are concerned, firstly, Yuefu folk songs, as the main body of previous poems, are a kind of social collective creation. They were originally written by some unknown authors, and changed constantly in the process of circulation, rarely showing the author's personality characteristics. In the Jian 'an era, there were few works without names. These works related to the author's name are often closely related to the author's personal special experience, emotion and unique aesthetic hobby. This promotes the development of poetry to diversification. Secondly, there are many narrative poems in Han Yuefu folk songs, because the works with interesting stories are easily accepted by ordinary people and widely circulated. However, most of Jian 'an literati poems are lyrical, and even if Yuefu poems are used, they are rarely narrated. Thirdly, some characteristics of Ci Fu, once the main body of literati literature, have also been brought into the field of poetry. The most striking feature of Ci Fu is gorgeous language, while Yuefu folk songs have always been unpretentious. Among Jian 'an poets, there are many famous poets who write poems, among which RoyceWong and Cao Zhi are outstanding representatives. Their poems also have an obvious tendency to be gorgeous. Moreover, in the field of poetry, they also took the lead in using the parallel couple method, which was widely used in earlier ci and fu. These antithetical poems also have traces of deliberate tempering. In a word, Jian 'an literati poetry is not only influenced by Yuefu folk songs, but also begins to transform into the exquisite beauty of literati. This is an important beginning in the development history of China's classical poetry. Cao Pi's saying that "poetry and fu are all beautiful" reflected the universal literary concept at that time. However, although Jian 'an poems tend to be gorgeous, they don't use elegant and abstruse written language too much, nor are they too complicated and extravagant, so that the sentences are relaxed and hinder the expression of emotions. Generally speaking, the language of the work is clear, concise, compact and powerful.
