About the author: Ye Shengtao (1894- 1988), formerly known as Ye, is a famous writer, educator, editor, literary publisher and social activist from Suzhou, Jiangsu. After liberation, Ye Shengtao served as deputy director of the General Administration of Publishing, president of People's Education Publishing House and vice minister of education. He is also the vice-chairman of the Sixth China People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the Fifth the NPC Standing Committee, a member of the Standing Committee of the Fifth China People's Political Consultative Conference, and the chairman of the Central Committee for Democratic Progressive Party. Ye Shengtao died in Beijing on February 1988 at the age of 94.
