Shakespeare's "Hamlet" Scene: The Queen's Chamber
Scene 3
Polonius: My good lady, I beg you to be strict with him , what he has done recently is too much!
Queen: You go down first! I've heard him coming.
Polonius: Yes, I will hide here. (Hiding behind the curtain)
(Hamlet Part 1)
Hamlet: What does mother want from me?
Queen: Hamlet, you have greatly offended your father!
Hamlet: Mother! You have greatly offended my father!
Queen: Come on, don’t answer me with such nonsense!
Hamlet: Go, go, don’t ask me in such nonsense language!
Queen: What’s wrong?
Hamlet: What’s the matter?
Queen: Have you forgotten who I am?
Hamlet: No! By this cross, I have not forgotten that you are the queen, your husband's brother's wife, and my mother. I wish you were not!
Queen: Okay, I'll let those who can talk talk to you.
Hamlet: Stand down! Do not move! (Raises hands) I'm going to use a mirror to look at you! Let you take a look at your soul!
The Queen (retreating) (horrified): Hamlet, are you going to kill me? Come on, come on!
Polonius (behind) Help! Help!
Hamlet: There are mice, there are mice! (Drawing his sword and stabbing behind the scenes, Polonius screams)
Queen: Hamlet, do you know what you have done?
Hamlet: I don’t know, just a king?
Queen: What a cruel and reckless act!
Hamlet: What a cruel and reckless act? Good mother, that's as bad as killing a king and marrying his brother!
Queen: Kill a king?
Hamlet: So say it to me!
Polonius (coming out of the curtain): I'm dead! (Falling down)
Hamlet: (To Polonius) You unfortunate, careless, officious fool! Now do you know the dangers of being nosy? (To the Queen) Don't just twist your hands, let me twist your heart! If your heart is not made of iron stone, my words will sting it!
Queen: What did I do wrong to make you bite your lips and tease me like this?
Hamlet: By your conduct you have defiled chastity, given virtue a reputation as hypocrisy, and made the covenant of marriage as false as a gambler's oath! The earth is saddened by such behavior, and its face is covered with sadness, as if the end of the world is coming!
Queen: What heinous crime is that makes you say it is so shocking?
Hamlet: Look at this picture, and look at yours. It is a portrait of two brothers. Look how noble and graceful this one is! Prove to the world that this is a typical man. This is your former husband. Look at your picture again, that is your current husband, he looks like a moldy grass! do you have eyes? ! ah? do you have eyes? You cannot say it is love, for at your age the passion has cooled, (The Queen begins to walk around Hamlet, horrified) What devil blinded you and deceived you like this? Shame! Shame! When uncontrollable passion attacks, why should you cry out for shame? (Steps forward to hug the queen) Because frost and snow will burn automatically, and reason will be the slave of passion!
Queen: Ah! Hamlet! I beg you to say no more! Your words pierce my ears like sharp knives! You let me see into the depths of my own soul those black stains that cannot be washed away!
Hamlet: Hey! Sleeping on a sweaty and filthy bed, letting lust blacken your mind, flirting in a filthy pigsty——
Queen: (painfully) Hamlet!
Hamlet: A murderer, a devil, a servant who is not one-hundredth as good as your ex-husband, a thief who steals the country, and a dirty and scoundrel king.
Queen: Stop talking!
(Enter the Ghost)
Hamlet: O gods in heaven, save me! Your majesty is sleepless, do you have any advice? Aren't you here to blame your son for wasting his time and affection, putting aside your glorious orders, and delaying the great things that should be done? ah! Say it!
Ghost: I am here to sharpen your determination that is about to cool down! The weakest people are most easily dominated by fantasy! Go talk to her! Hamlet.
Hamlet: Mother, what’s the matter with you?
Queen: My good son, what’s wrong with you? Why are the two eyes staring into nothingness and muttering into the air? Calm down! What are you looking at?
Hamlet: He, he, look! His face was so pale! Seeing his expression, even a stone would be moved if he knew how wronged he was - don't look at me, otherwise your pitiful expression will freeze my will and make tears replace blood!
Queen: Who are you talking to? Hamlet!
Hamlet: Don’t you see anything?
Queen: I didn’t see anything! If there be anything, I shall not fail to see it, Hamlet!
Hamlet: Heard nothing?
Queen: We alone speak here, Hamlet!
Hamlet: My father, in the clothes he wore in life! At this moment, he walked out of the door!
Queen: That is the image in your mind. Only when a person is in a trance will he have crazy delusions.
Hamlet: In a trance? No! Good mother! My pulse is the same as yours, beating at a normal rhythm! What I said is not crazy. If you don't believe it, I can repeat it verbatim. A madman would not remember that clearly. Mom, confess your sins to God! What I say is not out of madness, but in response to your fault. Confess your sins to God!
Queen: Ah! Hamlet, your words split my heart in twain!
Hamlet: Ah! Throw away the bad half, keep the other half, and let your soul be quieter! (heartbreaking) Don't go to my uncle's bed! Even if you have lost your temper, you still have to be encouraged to learn to be a chaste woman. Habits will subtly make you wash away evil and do good. If you restrain yourself tonight, you will feel that this kind of self-control is not so embarrassing next time. Gradually I got used to it. Let me say good night to you again. When you hope to be blessed by God, (make the sign of the cross on your chest) I beg you to bless me! I'll go and bury his body now, and then I'll take the blame for this murder! The misfortune has begun, and greater disasters are still coming. Another sentence says, mother——
Queen: Hamlet, what do you want me to do? What should I do?
Hamlet: Don’t do what I just said, let that fat pig-like king get into your bed, twist your face, and tell you to be his little mouse. Give you a few stinking kisses, or use his evil fingers to touch your neck, so that you will tell everything you know. I am not really crazy, I am pretending to be crazy. Tell him, yes! Because which beautiful, intelligent and loyal queen would conceal such a shocking thing from a toad, a bat and a tom cat? Tell him, not bad! Don't trust reason and don't keep secrets!
Queen: Don’t worry, if words come from breath, and breath comes from life, as long as I have breath I will let my breath keep your secrets! (Hamlet embraces the Queen from behind)
Hamlet: Must I go to England?
Queen: It has been decided
Hamlet: The official document has been sealed. The king must send my two classmates to bring it to him. Those two guys, I I will definitely be on guard at all times like two biting snakes. Oh, I want to see what they can do! (Pause) Mom, I regret killing that old man in a moment of recklessness. (Pause) But this is also God's will. Use his death to punish me and use my hands to punish him. (Pause, let go of the queen) Misfortune has come, and even greater disasters are yet to come! Good night, mother.
Queen: Good night, Hamlet.
(Hamlet, exiting the Queen)
