Creative background:
This group of poems was written in the third year of Shaoxi reign of Emperor Guangzong of the Song Dynasty (1192). At that time, Yang Wanli was serving as the deputy envoy to Jiangdong, and his post was in Jiankang (now Nanjing, Jiangsu). Surrounded by water and land, this place is easily accessible by boat and vehicle. It is the only place the author must pass when he leaves Lin'an for Jiankang to take up his post, or returns from Jiankang to Lin'an to report on his work. The author passed by here and stopped briefly for a short stay. He was inspired by the scenery and wrote this series of poems.
Appreciation of the main theme:
This group of works mainly describes rural pastoral scenery.
The first poem describes the spring scenery in a restaurant, wicker sticks, and village songs and dances during the Qingming Festival. The first two sentences indicate the season and location, first write the willow shoots, and then the restaurant. The last two sentences imply that he is in a foreign country by observing local customs, but he prefers to say "just watch the cold food at home", which shows that he does not have the melancholy of living in a foreign country, and is focused on "the village songs and dances are more romantic", which also shows that he is in a foreign country. A peaceful and leisurely state of mind.
The second poem is widely circulated. This is a poem describing the rural scenery in late spring, depicting a scene full of spring. The first two sentences highlight the happy and innocent background of children catching butterflies. "The flowers have fallen before they become shades" and the "cauliflower" in the conclusion indicate that this is the late spring season.
In the last two sentences, the colored pen is moved to the center of the picture, depicting the joyful scene of children catching butterflies. "Running away" and "Chasing" vividly depict children's innocent, lively, curious and competitive demeanor and psychology, vividly on the page. "Flying into the cauliflower and finding nowhere" suddenly turns the moving shot into stillness. The three words "Nowhere to be found" leave room for readers to imagine.
