After watching the movie "Dead Poets Society", I can't help feeling: "How much character do I have to accumulate in my life to meet such a good teacher as Mr. Keating?" Now there are more teachers and fewer good teachers; There are many teachers, but few people are educated.
Dead Poets Society is a story about education. Wilton University Preparatory School is a famous school with a history of 100 years, which is famous for its traditional rigid educational model. At the beginning of the film, this school gave me a deep sense of discomfort-the atmosphere here is too serious. Until the arrival of Mr. Keating, it broke the dead atmosphere here.
In the first class, Mr. Keating led the students to the school history exhibition hall and guided them to think about the meaning of life from the yellowed old photos. When I saw those photos, I was shocked for an instant. The so-called "flowers are similar year after year, and people are different year after year" is probably the truth.
Through a face of Zhang Mingliang in the photo, I seem to see myself. Birth, aging, illness and death are the laws of this world, and even a beautiful face will turn to dust one day. So, as Teacher Keating said, why not "seize the moment"? You can fold flowers straight, don't wait until there are no flowers. Life is so short, it is best to be with everything you like!
Grasping the present and exploring the meaning of life is the first lesson Keating taught his students. It is this extraordinary first lesson that has planted the seeds of pursuing ideals and breaking the shackles in students' hearts. Today, this first lesson is more than 20 years later, and it is also worth learning by teachers.
In the second class, Keating took the students to tear down the preface of an English poetry collection. He told the students: "We read and write poems not because they are fun, but because we are part of human beings, who are full of passion. Yes, medicine, law, business and engineering are lofty pursuits that can support a person's life. But poetry, beauty, romance and love are the meaning of our lives. " This may be the true meaning of poetry. It is not the cold type in the book, but the crystallization of people's true feelings. It is warm, cheerful, sad and angry.
I am a person who loves books very much. Don't scribble on the book, touch it with dirty hands, this is the most basic, and I didn't think about tearing it. But Mr. Keating's feat of "tearing books" is ostensibly tearing books, but actually teaching students to dare to break through the shackles of textbooks and schools and finally find their true selves. This is the second lesson that Mr Keating gives to his classmates. He doesn't stick to textbooks, dares to break through and express his ideas.
In the third class, Mr. Keating simply stood on the podium and asked everyone to stand on the podium and "see the world from another angle". And this is what moved me most about this movie-Mr. Keating liberated these children who were so unruly. He asked them to stand on the lecture table, stepping on the lecture table symbolizing the so-called tradition, discipline, glory and majesty with dusty leather shoes, and then stepping on all these so-called meanings. Only by breaking free from the cage can we see a bigger world.
Dead Poets Society is full of youthful memories and profound reflections on educational physique. The teenagers Neil, Knox, Charlie and Todd in the film seem to exist around us.
Under the leadership of Mr. Keating, these teenagers have gradually changed. Neil took part in the drama performance despite his father's orders, Knox got up the courage to tell the girl he liked, and Charlie quietly published an article in the school newspaper asking the school to accept girls. Change is in this subtle way. Among these teenagers, one person has brought me too much touching and thinking. He's-Neil.
Neil, a father paved a broad road for him early. His father hoped that he would be admitted to Harvard Medical School after graduating from Wilton and become a respected doctor in the future.
But Neil doesn't want to be a doctor at all. His dream is to be an actor. "This is the first time in my life that I know what I want to do." This is the first sentence that Neil said after he got the performance qualification of A Midsummer Night's Dream. At that time, he was as excited as a child, as excited as a baby who just started to understand the world. He was in high spirits and at a loss. But this scene seems so sad and pitiful to me.
Teacher Keating said, "You must try to find your own voice, because the later you start looking, the less likely you are to find it." In fact, many people just idle away the rest of their lives until they die without finding what they really want.
Sadly, our education has taught us how to solve trigonometric functions, how to look at higher isobars, and how to write a composition with low marks in half an hour, but it has not taught us how to be a "person". A temper, a soul, a principle, not discouraged, dare to summon, and love freedom.
Neil reorganized Mr. Keating's secret literature club "Dead Poets Society" and took part in a drama performance without telling his father, which led to irreconcilable contradictions between him and his father. On the stage, he is dazzling, but in reality, he has to face his father's cold eyes and ruthless persecution. He is very painful and confused, stuck in the gap between ideal and reality.
Finally, Neil put on the Jing crown in the performance and hastily ended his young life. In Neil, we see the enthusiasm and ferocity of a dream catcher, but at the same time we also see the helplessness and despair of a deeply imprisoned teenager. Neil, he can't decide anything, not even his own fate. In the end, he can only choose to end his life. He destroyed himself, but he was also free.
So, how many of us are caught in Neil's tragedy now? How many children's lives can be affected by the teacher's parents' sentence "I am good for you"?
Since childhood, when parents who are teachers ask their children what they want to do in the future, they get the same answers as "teacher", "scientist", "doctor" and "lawyer". We all know that these occupations are decent enough and ideal enough.
But in fact, how can children's ideals be so lacking? In the spring of cowboy class, spy, hot air balloon pilot, actor, magician and feng shui master, which seem to be "unreliable", were once the most coveted jobs in children's hearts.
However, with the passage of time, many people's childhood dreams have long been faded by dust, and those who wanted to be "actors" and "magicians" when they were young just shook their heads and talked again. They also began to pursue stability, comfort and constancy like their parents. Dreams are just dreams after all.
The seeds planted at a young age have been buried deep in the darkness, and there is no sunshine and rain. How can such seeds bear beautiful fruits?
Children are the continuation of parents' lives, but they are not their puppets or tools to realize their wishes. If parents can respect their children's personality, trust their children and believe that their children will have a wonderful life, then Neil's tragedy will not be performed again.
Because of Neil's death, Mr. Keating was implicated. This conservative school could not tolerate such "heresy" as Mr. Keating, and he was dismissed.
But just as Mr. Keating came to the classroom to get his luggage, Todd, the most disciplined and cautious student, suddenly stood on the desk and shouted, "Captain, my captain!" " "This is their unique nickname for Mr Keating. Then, many students stand on the desks. And this scene has become the most classic and touching scene in Dead Poets Society.
The dissolution of "Dead Poets Society", Neil's suicide and Mr. Keating's dismissal seem to be the victories of "feudal forces", but the free thinking, breakthrough spirit and innovative consciousness that Mr. Keating taught students have already penetrated into the hearts of teenagers. Until the seedlings break out of the ground and grow into towering trees. I believe that if that day comes, the educational composition of Wilton College and even the whole education field will be completely subverted.
There is a saying in the movie The Shawshank Redemption: "Some birds can't be caged. Their feathers are too bright. " So today I also want to say: children's hearts can't be shut up, because their souls are too shining.
