Where is the way out for modern poetry?

Historians are unfortunate, poets are lucky, and they are endowed with vicissitudes. So there were Xu Zhimo, Wen Yiduo, Guo Moruo and Feng Zhi ... Now it is peaceful and prosperous.

Modern poetry creation has encountered a greater confusion, that is, the great trouble brought by the evolution of language, the core element of poetry. Some people say that China has the reputation of "the kingdom of poetry" because of her unique language advantage-monosyllabic vocabulary. Indeed, the freedom and flexibility of monosyllabic words in word formation and sentence making can make poets feel free and handy, but it is a pity that this is the glory of the past. Nowadays, the modern Chinese vocabulary with disyllables as the main body largely limits its function of word-building and sentence-making, so the language space left for poets' activities is naturally much narrower. Coupled with the negative influence of the century-old vernacular movement, some people mistakenly think that "classical Chinese" is "old" and "old" is "bad". I don't know that many words in classical Chinese are concise and implicit, and they are still full of vitality until today. As mentioned above, it is true that modern society is dominated by western civilization, but please don't forget that we have an independent and complete history of civilization and a vibrant language (which is rare in the history of world civilization). As modern China people, we should have the confidence and ability to continue the glory that our ancestors once had.

Although we can't go back to ancient times, to the countryside, to the "continent on the river", we have the tender feelings on the water side, the lofty sentiments of "flying clouds and rising winds", the deep feelings of "Cornus officinalis is planted everywhere, and one person is lacking alone", the friendship of "going out of Yangguan for no reason in the West", the love of "wishing to be a pair of birds in the sky", the special feelings of "and" having a home ". Therefore, even if we are modern and westernized, it is impossible to abandon tradition overnight. Just like some of us dye our hair blonde, but can you make your skin white and your eyes blue? Take Yu Guangzhong, a famous poet in Taiwan Province as an example. He is a poet with profound attainments in China's classical literature, in-depth study of European and American literature, broad vision and strong sense of innovation. In his early years, Mr. Yu was deeply influenced by European and American modern thoughts, absorbed a lot of nutrition, and wrote poems with a very modern feeling, showing an anti-traditional creative orientation. However, many years of experience in living abroad told him that communicating with westerners completely in the way of westerners' words can not please others, but can only make his heart lose support. So he began to oppose westernization and consciously returned to tradition. From a large number of his poems, we can clearly feel how western modernist poetry and China classical poetry merged in the collision, creating new language, meaning and rhythm. Generally speaking, Yu Guangzhong's modern poetry creation provides us with an example. It is easy for us to feel the inexplicable happiness in Mr. Yu's poems, and the happiness surrounded by the artistic conception, syntax and phonology of Tang poetry and Song poetry may only be experienced by China people.

Among contemporary poets, Bei Dao, Gu Cheng, Haizi and others all have valuable explorations and masterpieces.

Looking back on history, we are proud enough; Pay attention to today, we don't need to be ashamed; Looking ahead, we are full of confidence.

With rich poetic tradition, wonderful real life and diligent creative groups, we have reason to believe that modern poetry will surely usher in a brilliant tomorrow.
