Original text:

In tropical countries, the sun shines very hard. People are tanned, like mahogany; in the hottest countries, they are tanned black. But now there is a scholar who lives in the cold zone and wants to come to these hot countries. He thought he could roam around in these countries just like in his own country, but it didn't take long for him to change his mind.

Like all sane people, he had to stay at home, keeping the shutters and doors closed all day long, making it look as if the whole house was sleeping or that no one was at home. The narrow street where he lived, with its many tall houses, was built just so that the sun shone on it from morning to night. This is really overwhelming!

This scholar from a cold country is a smart young man. He felt as if he were sitting inside a white-hot furnace. This exhausted him. He became very thin, and even his shadow shrank, much smaller than when he was at home. The sun also baked it listlessly. Only after the sun had set did he and the shadow recover in the evening.

This situation seems to be a very interesting thing. As soon as the candle was brought into the room, the shadow stretched on the wall. It stretched itself very high, even to the ceiling. In order to regain its strength, it has to stretch.
