The history of river restoration at Red Bridge

The person who pioneered the construction of the Red Bridge to repair the misfortune was Wang Shizhen (also known as Wang Yuyang later), a famous poet in the Qing Dynasty. When he was an official in Yangzhou, he "did official business during the day and received poets at night" and "communicated with all the poets" "A celebrity travels without a day's rest", he is a person who presides over elegance. After his death, the people of Yangzhou built the "Three Sages Temple" to commemorate him, along with Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi of the Song Dynasty. In the spring of the first year of Kangxi (1662), he and other famous people from Yangzhou gathered at Hongqiao. They "beat bowls and composed poems, and feasted endlessly." During this time, Wang Shizhen composed three poems "Huanxi Sand", among which are widely circulated famous lines. There is: "The Qingxi River in Beiguo flows, the scenery of the red bridge is in autumn, and the green poplar city wall is Yangzhou." Everyone composed poems in harmonious rhyme, which became a good story for a while. Nalan Xingde, a famous poet in the Qing Dynasty, also wrote a poem in "Huanxi Sand": "The water flows every year without any problems, and the sound of water makes the pavilion short in autumn. In the old days, the bright moon shone in Yangzhou. It used to be a long embankment holding brocade cables, and the green poplars are thin and sad to this day. , Yugouxian Road is close to Milou." In the spring of the third year of Emperor Kangxi's reign, Wang Shizhen and other celebrities repaired the banquet on the Red Bridge. Wang Shizhen composed twenty "Yechun Quatrains" in succession, among which the most popular one is: "The Red Bridge flies across the water, and one word railing has nine red songs." . At noon, people were passing under the painting bridge, and the people in fragrant clothes were so hurried. "There were more people singing, and it created an unprecedented spectacle of "Jianglou singing the lyrics of "Yechun" together. A few years later, even Wang Shizhen himself was proudly compared with his ancestor Wang Xizhi. In the preface to his collection of poems, he said: "Red Bridge sang impromptu, and when the mood was up, it was written into a chapter. Each one was selected to reflect the great event of the time. "Let Hongqiao and Orchid Pavilion be heard together" and later compiled into three volumes of "Hongqiao Singing Collection". To this day, the two good words "Green Yang City" and "Yechun" left by Wang Shizhen are familiar to all Yangzhou people. In terms of its scale and influence, the most spectacular one was the third Red Bridge Renovation hosted by Lu Jianzeng (also known as Lu Yayu) who was the salt transport envoy to the Huaihe River at that time. Lu Jian was an official with considerable political achievements, and he was an upright man. He liked poetry and prose. He "dominated the southeastern literary world and was called a domestic master for a while." He was a famous litterateur in the Qing Dynasty. The talented scholar Ji Xiaolan married his eldest daughter to his eldest grandson, which shows his prestige. During his stay in Yangzhou, Lu Jian Zeng Guang made friends with literati, drank and had fun, which led to a period of great literary and wine prosperity. He imitated Wang Shizhen and Kong Shangren and built the Red Bridge several times. Zheng Banqiao, Jin Nong, Yuan Mei, Luo Pin, Li E and other famous people all participated. The most famous one is that on March 3, the 22nd year of Qianlong (1757), Lu Jian invited celebrities to gather in the "Hongqiao Xiuyu" hall of Yihong Garden and composed four poems with seven rhymes, among which the famous lines include: "Ten Miles of Painting in Xin Langyuan" ", "Old Yangzhou is divided into two bright moons" and so on. There were actually 7,000 people from all over the country who followed the rhyme. The final edited collection of poems amounted to more than 300 volumes, and the "Hongqiao Scenic Spot" was drawn to commemorate its victory and the reputation of the red bridge for repairing evil. It traveled all over the country and became a grand event in the history of Chinese poetry. Zheng Banqiao, one of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou, also participated in this ritual. He had a close relationship with Lu Jian and wrote "Four Poems on the Red Bridge with Yayu Mountain Man" and "Four Poems with Lu Yayu Again".

Lu Jian once created a literary and drinking game called "Twenty-Four Scenes of Slender West Lake" at a banquet of literati and elegant scholars, in which he carved the twenty-four scenes of Slender West Lake on ivory dominoes, and everyone drew the tiles in turn. After seeing the scene, he could recite poems and lines on the spot. Those who couldn't do it would be punished with a glass of wine. This game method soon became popular all over the country, and the twenty-four scenes also became famous with the poems of literati.
