The circumference of the foothills is about 125 km (78 miles). Coupled with the wide lava flow at the foot of the mountain, the diameter of the bottom is about 40-50 kilometers (25-30 miles). The crater surface on the top of the mountain is about 500 meters (1 600 feet) in diameter and 250 meters (820 feet) in depth. There are "Fuji Eight Peaks" around the jagged edge of the crater, namely Jianfeng, Baishan, Jiusu Zhiyue, Dariyue, Yidou Yuet, Chengjiayue, Juyue and Sanyue. Mount Fuji belongs to the Fuji volcanic belt, which is a volcanic chain from Mariana Islands to northern Honshu via Izu Islands and Izu Peninsula. The world-famous Mount Fuji is one of the important symbols of Japan. In ancient literature, it is also called Buji, Buji or Fuci, and is often called Furong Peak or Fuyue Mountain. Since ancient times, the name of this mountain has often appeared in the traditional Japanese poem "Song of Peace".
Fuji's name comes from the Shai language, and now it means "eternal life". The original pronunciation comes from the language of the Ainu minority in Japan, which means "the mountain of fire" or "Vulcan". This mountain is a beautiful cone, which is world-famous and a sacred symbol of Japan.
As one of the symbols of Japan, Mount Fuji enjoys a high reputation all over the world. It is also often called "Furong Peak" or "Fuyue Mountain" or "No Mountain". Since ancient times, the name of this mountain has often appeared in the traditional Japanese poem Song of Peace.
Now, Mount Fuji is known as the "Holy Mountain" by the Japanese people, and it is a symbol that the Japanese nation is proud of. Mount Fuji towering into the sky, the top of which is covered with snow. Looking around, it looks like an upside-down fan, so it is also called "jade fan".
The mountain is cone-shaped, erupting * * * 18 times, with the latest eruption in 1707. Although it is in a dormant state, there is still a spray phenomenon. Formed about 6.5438 million years ago, it is a typical layered volcano. The basement is tertiary stratum. At the beginning of Quaternary, volcanic lava broke through tertiary strata and erupted and accumulated into mountains. After many eruptions, volcanic ejecta piled up layer by layer and became a cone-shaped layered volcano. There are more than 2,000 kinds of plants on the mountain, with obvious vertical distribution. Below 500 meters above sea level, there are subtropical evergreen forests, temperate deciduous broad-leaved forests of 500-2000 meters, cold temperate coniferous forests of 2000-2600 meters, and alpine dwarf forest belts above 2600 meters. The top of the mountain is covered with snow all year round. The five dammed lakes (Fuji Five Lakes: Mountain, Estuary, West, Qin and Yuan) at the northern foot reflect the white snow, beautiful lakes and mountains, and are the tourist attractions in Japan. There are various parks, science and technology museums, museums and various amusement places. There is a huge crater at the top of the mountain, about 800 meters in diameter and 200 meters deep.
Mount Fuji is a typical stratiform volcano. From the appearance, it is a standard cone volcano with a unique and beautiful outline. So far, the formation of Mount Fuji can be roughly divided into three stages:
Xiaoyuyue, ancient Fuji, new Fuji
Among them, Xiaoyuyue is the oldest volcano, which was formed in the updated generation hundreds of thousands of years ago.
The ancient Mount Fuji was formed from about 80,000 years ago to about15,000 years ago, and its height was close to 3,000 meters above sea level. It is estimated that the peak at that time was located 1-2 km north of the current Baoyong crater.
Due to the eruption of the crater, Mount Fuji has formed countless caves at the foot of the mountain, and some caves still have ejection phenomena. The most beautiful cave wall of Fuyuefeng is covered with stalactite-like icicles, which remain unchanged all year round and are regarded as rare wonders. There are two craters on the top of the mountain, the big crater, with a diameter of about 800 meters and a depth of 200 meters. When the weather is clear, watching the sunrise and the sea of clouds on the top of the mountain is an essential tour for tourists from all over the world to come to Japan.
There are five Fuji lakes at the northern foot of Mount Fuji. From east to west, they are Mountain Lake, Hekou Lake, West Lake, Jinjing Lake and Benqi Lake. Mountains and lakes are the largest, with an area of 6.75 square kilometers. There are many sports facilities by the lake, such as playing tennis, water skiing, fishing, camping and boating. In RenNomura, southeast of the lake, there are eight ponds, such as Yongchi and Jingchi, which are collectively called "Eight Seas of Renye" and are connected with lakes in the mountains. Hekou Lake is the earliest developed of the five lakes, where the traffic is very convenient and it has become a tourist center among the five lakes. Yi island in the lake is the only island in the five lakes. There is a shrine dedicated to the safe delivery of pregnant women on the island. There is also a1260m long bridge across the lake. The reflection of Mount Fuji reflected in Hekou Lake is called one of the wonders of Mount Fuji.
West Lake, also known as the West Sea, is the quietest of the five lakes. It is said that the West Lake and Jinjing Lake were originally connected, but the pleasant scenery under Mount Fuji was divided into two lakes due to the eruption of Mount Fuji, but the bottoms of the two lakes are still connected. There are scenic spots such as Hongyetai, Sea of Trees, Ming Ze Ice Cave and Zuhe Mountain. Jinjing Lake is the smallest of the five Fuji lakes, but its style is the most unique. There are many towering cliffs on the lakeshore, and the terrain is complex. Lake Benqi is the deepest, reaching 126 meters. The lake is not frozen all year round, dark blue and unfathomable.
The southern foot of Mount Fuji is a vast plateau with lush green grass, which is a sightseeing pasture for flocks of cattle and sheep. In the southwest corner of the mountain, there are the famous White Waterfall and Yin Zhi Waterfall. With a drop of 26 meters, the white waterfall is divided into more than ten streams from the rock wall, which seems to fall from the air for countless days, forming a rain curtain with a width of 130 meters, which is quite spectacular. The waterfall came crashing down from a height like a giant column, and the sound was like thunder, shaking the earth. Mount Fuji is also a natural botanical garden with more than 2,000 kinds of plants.
At the foot of Mount Fuji in Ayano City, Shizuoka Prefecture, there is also a Fuji Wildlife Park, covering an area of 740,000 square meters, with more than 40 species of wild animals, including more than 30 lions. Visitors can drive cars and watch all kinds of animals in the park.
In addition, Mount Fuji also has fantasy travel museum, insect museum, natural science museum, strange stone museum, Fuji museum, large science museum, botanical garden, wild bird park, wild monkey park and various sports and entertainment places.
Located on the top of the mountain, the sacred temples-Nine Notices Shrine and Asami Shrine are the main attractions of Izu National Park in Hakone-CHO, Fuji, and are also frequented by tourists. Thousands of domestic and foreign tourists visit the Peak Shrine every summer.
