Discussion on the etiology of Tourette's syndrome in children from the perspective of traditional Chinese and western medicine

Tourette syndrome in children, also known as Tourette syndrome, is a complex chronic neuropsychiatric disorder. It is common in children aged 3 ~ 15, with more boys than girls. The main manifestations are involuntary blinking, facial muscle twitching, nose contraction, shaking head, shrugging, foul language, voice in the throat and involuntary twitching of abdomen and limbs.

Western medicine believes that

During the development of children, the brain motion analyzer is in a state of high excitement, which is prone to convulsions, which may be related to heredity, physique and improper drug use. Especially for children with special qualities, when they have some mental factors or imitate other people's actions, it is easy to form this kind of exercise conditioned reflex and turn it into a pathological inertia reaction, which will become a habitual twitch after a long time. Although there is no name of TIC disorder in ancient Chinese medicine books, there are a lot of descriptions of related symptoms. For example, Wang Ming Kentang's "If the syndrome is straight, the disease will be young, and if it is slow, it will be shocking": "The aquatic liver is wood, and the wood is weathered ... Carbuncle is gradually born, with carbuncle symptoms, shoulders slightly hunched, hands drooping, and abdomen shaking ..."

According to the above characteristics, Tourette's syndrome in children belongs to the category of "liver wind moving internally and wind phlegm". Its origin is liver, kidney and spleen, and its labels are wind, fire, phlegm and dampness. The liver of traditional Chinese medicine is different from the pure liver of western medicine, which contains the functions of dredging and smoothing. When this function is impaired, the limbs will have clinical manifestations of convulsions and spasms. Liver and kidney are closely related, and their yin nourishes each other. When muscles wear out, it will cause TIC disorder. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that spleen is the key to the movement of middle qi. When the spleen is weak, the middle-jiao water valley has no right to transport and transform, and it is easy to produce pathological products such as water and dampness. Because children are infantile yin and yang, the liver is often surplus, the spleen is often deficient, and internal and external evils are easy to trigger the liver wind, so it can be seen that the liver wind moves internally, the spleen deficiency is wet, the phlegm and dampness are blocked, the mind is blinded, and the heart can't help but twitch and curse.
