Introduction to Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area and Boxian Road;
Yuntai Mountain was originally opposite to Jinshan across the river, so it was also called Yinshan Mountain and Yintai Mountain. Later, it was called Yuntai Mountain because of the sound change.
After the Opium War, Yuntai Mountain area was divided into British Concession and British Consulate was established.
Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area consists of Boxian Park and Boxian Road modern buildings. Boxian Park is located on Yuntai Mountain, with lush trees and beautiful scenery. 1926, in order to commemorate Zhao Boxian, a martyr of the Revolution of 1911, Zhenjiang people proposed to build Yuntai Mountain into Zhao Boxian Park, which was carefully designed by gardening expert Chen. It lasted for five years and was completed and opened in June of 193 1.
There are a pair of stone lions in front of the park, which are beautifully carved. There are two white marble carvings embedded in the walls on both sides of the gate. The four characters "Boxian Garden" on the right were inscribed by the late honorary chairman Soong Ching Ling. On the left is A Brief Introduction to Martyrs' Deeds, written by Dr. Tian Heng, Sun Yat-sen's secretary, who died at the age of 80.
Facing the garden is a hedge barrier, and there is a bronze statue of Zhao Boxian's martyr in the middle: binoculars in both hands, a command knife at his waist, chest out and facing forward, heroic and lifelike. Behind the statue is a lotus pond with fountains, rocky rockeries and caves on the walls of the peaks, which are exquisite and rough. The May 30th Lecture Hall is located in Boxian Park, with Yuntai Mountain in the north and lotus pond in the west. It is a double-eaved, backer roof with four eaves rising upwards, with a total length of 28 meters and a width of 19 meters. There are kissing animals at both ends of the roof, two gables with carved patterns, two layers of brick-wood structure, four walls with glass windows, a circular corridor at the bottom, a column height of 3.7 meters, a corridor width of 2.2 meters, a podium at the east end of the room and a surrounding balcony upstairs. The whole building is simple and solemn. The foundation stone of this hall was laid in August 1925 and completed in August 1926. There is a white stone inscription on the north and south sides of the wall base. The inscription has the same words: "People from all walks of life in Zhenjiang in August of the fourteenth year of the Republic of China will never forget this hall." There is a Zhenjiang "May 30th" sports cultural relics exhibition hall in the hall. On May 20th, 1925, Zhang Ren, Xinhua, Guangxin Silk Factory, Yingchang Match Factory, rickshaw pullers and barge dock workers in Zhenjiang, Jiangxi, went on strike one after another to protest against the killing of Gu Zhenghong by Japanese troops in Shanghai cotton mill. On May 30th, the May 30th massacre occurred in Shanghai, and the people of the whole country set off an anti-imperialist patriotic climax under the leadership of China's * * * production party. On June 2nd, Zhenjiang went on strike to establish the "Zhenjiang Diplomatic Support Association", and held a large-scale demonstration on the 5th. In late June, all walks of life in Zhenjiang set off a boycott of Japanese goods, organized inspection teams to destroy Japanese goods, and fined profiteers who possessed Japanese goods tens of thousands of yuan. After consultation from all walks of life, in order to commemorate the patriotic feat of Zhenjiang people, the "May 30th" lecture hall was built with a fine. "May 30th" lecture hall was listed as a provincial cultural protection unit in 1982.
