Botanical culture of Huashan pine

There are many records in ancient books and listed as "tributes". "Western Mountain Sutra" says: "The head of Huashan Mountain is called Qianlai Mountain, with many pines on it." "History of the Five Dynasties·Yixingzhuan" records: "Zheng Ao heard that there were five pine trees in Huashan Mountain, so he moved to Huayin to seek them." "Huanyu Ji" says: "In the Tang Dynasty, Huazhou paid tribute to five pine trees." "Guixin Miscellaneous Notes" says: "All pine leaves are double-stranded, and in ancient times they were called pine hairpins. Each ear of the pine tree has three hairpins, while each ear of the Goryeo pine has five hairpins. This is what is now called the Huashan pine." It can be seen that Huashan pine has been famous since ancient times.

The beauty of pine has become the object of praise and description by poets and painters. Since ancient times, people have ranked it alongside bamboo and plum blossoms and praised it as the "three friends of winter". Huashan pine is regarded as a model by mankind because of its proud standing posture and enterprising spirit. At the same time, it has been praised by people since ancient times for its proud and upright character. Tao Yuanming's poems in "Returning to Lai Ci" include "Three paths are deserted, but pines and chrysanthemums still exist" and "The scenery is obscured to protect people, and they caress the lonely pines while wandering around". In "Twenty Poems on Drinking", there are also " The green pines are in the east garden, and the grass has no beauty; the severe frost treasures rare species, and the outstanding branches can be seen." The pine is also endowed with the character of perseverance, tenacity, and integrity, which is a reflection of the everlasting spirit of the Chinese nation. "Don't you suffer from the cold? Pines and cypresses have their own nature" (Liu Zhen of the Han Dynasty), "Those who do not change with the times are also pines and cypresses" (Su Shi of the Song Dynasty), "I hope you will learn from the pine trees, and be careful not to become peaches and plums" (Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty). Throughout the ages, pine trees have entrusted and condensed people's pursuit of an ideal personality. This is also the most typical cultural feature that it is regarded as a symbol of longevity and immortality among the people and is praised. When people celebrate their birthdays, they often hang a birthday picture such as "pines and cranes prolong life" and "pines and cypresses with green" to show their youthfulness, health and longevity. Huashan Mountain in Xiyue Mountain is famous for its steepness. In addition to the steepness, the numerous famous and unknown pine trees on the mountain add to the splendor of Huashan Mountain. It is a pity that if people go to Huashan Mountain, they will find that there are more and more dead pine trees on the mountain. It is understood that as of 2012, there were only about 50 ancient trees surviving on Huashan Mountain.

Because of the trees, the mountains reveal strength in the ordinary; because of the trees, the trees add a bit of charm and elegance; the mountains nourish the trees, and the trees fertilize the mountains; the mountains and trees depend on each other, and the trees are graceful in the embrace of the mountains; the mountains Standing tall and strong in the company of trees. A mountain without trees is dull and boring; a tree without a mountain is weak and lonely. The mountains and trees are intertwined with each other, the scenery is vivid, and the weather is endless and natural. Ancient trees are rare and precious resources in famous mountains. Xu Xiake, a traveler and geographer in the Ming Dynasty, visited Huangshan twice. The reason why he exclaimed that he "didn't see the mountains after returning from Huangshan" was probably due to the charm of Huangshan that "there are no rocks and no pines, and no pines are astonishing". When people talk about Mount Huangshan, the first thing they think of is Mount Huangshan pine. A tall Huangshan pine is often hundreds or even thousands of years old. It remains young despite weathering the wind, frost, rain and snow. Because of Huangshan pine, Huangshan has the world-famous four wonders of "strange pines, strange rocks, sea of ??clouds, and hot springs", as well as natural wonders such as rime that can be called a fairyland on earth.
