Ying Long is the most expensive dragon (of course, some people think that Ying Long can refer to the ancient clan and tribe and the mysterious ancient country-Ying Long family and Yingguo). In Tianwen, Qu Yuan, a great poet in China, expressed his incomprehension about how dragons helped Dayu control water and how to draw a river on the ground with their tails to lead floods into the sea.
Ying Long first appeared before the Yellow Emperor and was recorded in Shan Hai Jing and Historical Records. A war broke out between the tribes in the Yellow River valley headed by the Yellow Emperor and the tribes in the Yangtze River valley headed by Chiyou, and both sides used all kinds of magical animals to help. Ying Long on the Yellow Emperor's side is good at "livestock water", and Chiyou is also good at giving orders. His skill is better than that of Ying Long, and the heavy rain drifted to the Yellow Emperor. The Yellow Emperor was weak, so he asked the goddess Chiyou to help stop the heavy rain and annihilate the Chiyou tribe in one fell swoop. Ying Long made great contributions to the neutrality in the war, killing Chiyou and Kuafu. Because the war consumed too much energy, I could never fly back to heaven, so I quietly came to the mountains and rivers in the south to live. Dragons are water-based, and where they are, clouds, air and water naturally converge, which is why it is rainy in the south. Many years later, Ying Long came back to help Tianyu manage water veins and open up rivers, becoming one of the heroes of water control.
According to Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio, "dragon five has been a Ceratosaurus for a hundred years, and Ying Long for a thousand years", Ying Long is the essence of the dragon, so he has wings. According to legend, Ying Long was the dragon of the ancient Yellow Emperor. It was ordered by the Yellow Emperor to crusade against Chiyou and kill Chiyou to become a hero. In Yu's flood control, the dragon swept the floor with its tail and diverted the flood. This dragon is also called Huanglong, and Huanglong is it, so it is the hero of Yu. Ying Long is characterized by wings, prickly scales, long head, small nose, eyes and ears, big eyes, high eyebrow arch, sharp teeth, protruding forehead, thin neck, long tail tip and strong limbs, just like a Chinese alligator with wings. The image of Ying Long often appears in jade carvings, stone carvings, silk paintings and lacquerware in the Han Dynasty during the Warring States Period.
Living in the south, Ying Long does nothing all day. Things are changing, the stars are changing. In a blink of an eye, it was the Dayu era, and the flood raged. Dayu shouldered the heavy responsibility of saving lives, and Ying Long came to help. Wang Yi of the Han Dynasty and Guo Pu of the Jin Dynasty also echoed this myth, emphasizing that Ying Long had wings. Wings are very important for dragons, because with wings, it is possible to fly, which leads to the birth of the image of dragons. The heroes described by Huangdi and Yu have great power and high status, but the use of wings has not been brought into play.
However, Wang Jia of the Jin Dynasty said in his Notes on Collecting Wind that when Dayu was in charge of water conservancy, there was a "yellow dragon following behind", which was slightly different from the aforementioned Ying Long. According to the Records of Wushan County, it is said that when Dayu led the flood to Wushan, Yilong dug the wrong waterway and killed it by mistake. Even if the average dragon has the power to divide water, it will die in Jiuquan. Whether Ying Long or Huanglong, it is said that the high point is the right-hand man of the tribal leader, and the low point is the ordinary soldier. There is not much divinity in the world. Except for Ying Long, the dragon images such as Candle dragon, Goulong and Solanum nigrum failed to develop in later generations.
Of course, Huanglong can also refer to Dayu. According to Shan Hai Jing, Yu's father, Kun, stole the "rest land" of the Emperor of Heaven to bury the flood, and was finally killed in the suburb of Yushan. His body did not rot three years after his death. The Emperor of Heaven sent immortals to dissect the gun body with martial arts, and as a result, a Huanglong and Dayu were born. This is the embryonic form of the story of the dragon becoming a human being, and later generations often compare people to dragons. For example, Confucius praised Laozi as a dragon.
