There are many kinds of printing plates commonly used to engrave multi-color printed matter. What's a plate?

There are many kinds of plates commonly used to carve a multi-color print, such as wood plate, copper plate, zinc plate, stone plate and so on. Color separation is to divide the pattern of a printed matter into several color blocks, and make a separate printing plate for each color block. When printing, each printing plate is printed with different colors of ink, and finally the printed matter of each color block is combined to form a complete printed matter. This method requires less printing plates and fewer printing times, but the color change is relatively small. Commonly used plates are woodcut, copper plate, zinc plate, stone plate and so on. Different materials have different characteristics and scope of application, and the selection of suitable materials depends on the effect and requirements of printmaking.
