Mi Fang, a native of Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, is not recorded in detail in the existing historical materials. He was originally a subordinate of Cao Cao and took photos in Xuzhou. Because he is a very wise counselor, he can't lead troops to fight, which poses less threat, so he was selected by Cao Cao as an undercover sent to Shu. First, the news was released, saying that he could not be reused by Cao Cao here, and even insulted Cao Cao as cao thief. Then he refused Cao Cao's appointment and defected to Liu Bei with his younger brother.
At that time, without Zhuge Liang's assistance, Liu Bei was in urgent need of a counselor and immediately accepted Mi Fang. In this way, the undercover arranged by Cao Cao successfully entered the Shu camp. On the surface, Mi Fang tried his best to assist Liu Bei in the early stage. He followed Liu Bei to participate in large and small wars, from Xuzhou to Yecheng, from Yecheng to Xinye, and then from Xinye to Jiangxia, and gained Liu Bei's trust.
Later, Liu Bei's advisers gradually increased, and Mi Fang pretended to retire. When others made suggestions for Shu, he began to carry out the plan to harm Shu, and in the process he even outwitted Zhuge Liang, a clever man. Liu Bei was defeated in the battle of Changbanpo. His generals fought bloody battles and fought their way out, but Liu Bei's wife and children did not escape. General Zhao Yun was sent to save his wife and children.
As we all know, Zhao Yun went in and out several times during the Battle of Changbanpo, and it took a long time to get Liu Bei's wife and children out of the camp of Cao Jun.. Because Mi Fang didn't come back, he slandered Liu Bei, saying that Zhao Zilong was unfaithful to alienate the master and servant.
Guan Yu led troops to support him before his defeat in Maicheng. It was Mi Fang who was guarding Maicheng at that time, but he surrendered to Sun Wu in advance, which led to the ambush of Guan Yu when he arrived in Maicheng, which eventually led to the death of General Guan. Guan Yu's death triggered a series of events, which is the "butterfly effect" we said at the beginning. Zhang Fei was very sad after hearing the news. He drank too much. When he was drunk, he whipped his servant. His subordinates were in great pain. They killed him when he was drunk.
Liu Bei was very sad to hear that Guan Yu was killed, and then came the news that Zhang Fei was killed by his men. At that time, he completely lost his mind and launched the "Yiling War" against Sun Wu, which made the situation in Shu begin to turn from prosperity to decline. Lu Xun burned the camp of the Shu army, burned the morale of the Shu soldiers, and even burned the national luck of Shu.
The Shu army was defeated, and Liu Bei worked hard, and his self-made capital was almost exhausted. He had to return to Sichuan to recuperate the soldiers and civilians, and soon died. Shortly after Liu Bei's death, Zhuge Liang failed to attack Wei many times and died in the crusade. Only Liu Chan, the post-ruler of Shu, only cared about playing, and was replaced by Cao Wei regime a few years later.
Therefore, without Mi Fang's actions, Guan Yu would not have died, Zhang Fei would not have died, and Liu Bei would not have launched the "Yiling War" that affected Shu's luck, and Shu's national strength would not have been incomplete and eventually perished. In this way, although Mi Fang was humble, it affected the historical process. He is the butterfly in the "butterfly effect".
