[Small story]
He Shaoji during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty was a famous scholar, poet and calligrapher. His cursive script was even known as "the best of his generation" ". Not only does he have superb cultural accomplishment. Personal moral character is also excellent. Once, he suddenly received an urgent letter from his hometown in Hunan, saying that his neighbor had forcibly occupied the three-foot foundation of his ancestral house. He had now taken the matter to the government and asked him to use his connections to win the lawsuit. After reading the letter, he smiled indifferently, simplified a few words and attached a poem at the end: "The letter from home thousands of miles away is only a wall; why not let people be three feet away? The Great Wall is still there today, and Qin Shihuang is nowhere to be seen." The poem begins. This shows his point of view: Three feet is not worth worrying about, and there is no need to travel thousands of miles to do it. Then the fact that the Great Wall still exists today, but the main builder Qin Shihuang has died, is used to illustrate that people cannot take away their belongings after death, so don't fight with others for a three-foot foundation. The family members made concessions in accordance with his opinions, and the neighbors were moved and stepped back. So the distance between the walls between the two houses was six feet. People called it "Six Feet Alley" and it became a popular story for a while.
