Zhenjiang is a famous cultural city in the south of the Yangtze River with a long history. There are unearthed cultural relics and historical records. It belonged to Yangzhou, Kyushu, Gong Yu in ancient times, and it was suitable for waiting for fiefs in the early Western Zhou Dynasty. It was renamed Zhenjiang in the Northern Song Dynasty. Zhenjiang has beautiful scenery and unique characteristics of true mountains and waters, and is known as "the first mountain in the world". The beauty of Jinshan, the beauty of Jiao Shan, and the precipitous and changeable beauty of Beigushan are called "Jingkou has three mountains and a good southeast". Helin, Bamboo Forest and Zhao Yin Temple in the southern suburbs are surrounded by mountains and deep forests, which extend all the way to the urban areas, and are called "urban forests". Zhenjiang is not only famous for its natural scenery, but also is dotted with cultural relics and historic sites: the famous Jinshan Jiangtian Temple, the forest of steles in Jiao Shan, the unique ancient streets of Song and Yuan Dynasties, the exquisite stone pagodas crossing the street, the Prince Zhaoming's reading platform hidden in pines and cypresses, the stone carvings of the tombs of the Six Dynasties, the ancient Xidu and other scenic spots, which record the long footprint of this ancient city and attract countless scholars at home and abroad.
The city is rich in historical sites. Jinshan Temple, Jiaoshan Dinghui Temple, Baohuashan Longchang Temple and Maoshan Taoist Temple, which were built more than 0/500 years ago, are all important Buddhist and Taoist temples. Jiaoshan Forest of Steles Museum has preserved the calligraphy works of famous calligraphers and cultural celebrities in Jin, Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, which is very attractive to calligraphers and calligraphy lovers at home and abroad. Stone carvings on tombs in the Southern Dynasties have been around 1700 years, which are rare in China in terms of quantity, workmanship, exquisite carving and well-preserved. Zhenjiang Museum, a group of five English buildings built in 1890, was originally the former site of the British Consulate General, and now it has a collection of more than 30,000 pieces of cultural relics from Neolithic Age to modern times. Li Deyu, Su Shi, Mi Fei and Xin Qiji, famous figures in the Tang Dynasty, all had deep roots in Zhenjiang. Many famous historical stories and folklore, such as Sun Liu Lian's resistance to Cao, Legend of White Snake, Shuishan, Yue Fei and Han Shizhong's resistance to Jin, all originated in Zhenjiang. Italian Kyle Poirot, Japanese painter Sesshū Tōyō and American writer Pearl Buck have all lived and worked in Zhenjiang for many years and have deep feelings for Zhenjiang.
