Memories │ How to understand Pu Zhao's old name: Zhao Puchu, that is, not Zhao Puchu. ...

Zhao Puchu lay man is an outstanding patriotic religious leader. He advocates human Buddhism and attaches importance to the education of monks. He has made outstanding contributions in assisting the government to implement the policy of freedom of religious belief, improving the Sangha system and foreign exchanges of Buddhism, and won unanimous praise from both inside and outside the church. Li, the author of this article, was ordered by Park Lao to work in China Buddhist Culture Institute. In his words, he is "running errands" around his old friend. 1994, under the arrangement of Park Lao, Mr. Li, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phoenix Satellite TV and other famous people set up the "China Buddhist Culture Information Center" in Hong Kong. In 200 1 year, Phoenix.com integrated the rich resources of "China Buddhist Cultural Information Center", which was the predecessor of Fenghuang. com Buddhism. On May 2 1 2020, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of Zhao Puchu's death, Buddhism once again published the article "Looking for Zhao Puchu to Understand Zhao Puchu" written by Mr. Li 10 years ago, in memory of Park Lao's great life of being brave in innovation, strong and upright, diligent and honest, and pursuing truth.

Looking for Zhao Puchu? Understand Zhao Puchu.

Text/Li

In order to shoot Zhao Puchu's feature film, I interviewed some people who were related to him before his death, and recalled and pondered a lot of information. In order to assist in editing the Chronicle of Zhao Puchu, I carefully read his articles, and sorted out his approvals for me and other relevant people, and combined with his past conversation record, I got a deeper understanding of his spirit.

One thing that has to be mentioned in these historical materials is that Mao Zedong and Zhao Puchu received foreign guests together. Before the foreign guests arrived, Mao Zedong asked Zhao Puchu, "Is there such a formula in Buddhism?" ? Is a Zhao Puchu, that is, not Zhao Puchu'. "

"yes." Zhao Puchu replied.

"First there was, then there wasn't ..." Mao Zedong said thoughtfully.

"no! It is both positive and negative. " Zhao Puchu explained to him.

"It's hard to understand." Mao Zedong lost in thought.

At this moment, the foreign guests came. They failed to talk further.

I have heard this conversation from him many times. Every time, he described the scene vividly, but the words were only a few words, concise and accurate. 1993 I compiled and published this dialogue record in the third issue of Buddhist Culture. The last sentence is "'..." Mao Zedong lost in thought ",omitting the word" difficult to understand ". Mr Zhao Puchu told me not to write these four words. I think this is also because there was a tendency at that time that there would be no "incomprehensible" problems in Mao Zedong.

This incident shows that the influence of Buddhism is so far-reaching, even Mao Zedong, who is revered and confident by so many people, is seriously thinking about it, and there are some incomprehensible places. At the same time, Mao Zedong asked Zhao Puchu about this matter seriously and modestly, which also reflected Zhao Puchu's position in Buddhism.

But there is another example, which not only shows his influence, but also reflects some people's misunderstanding of him, and that is the widely circulated "relieved ballad". This ballad was published in a Qigong magazine more than ten years ago.

At that time, our colleagues at the Buddhist Culture Research Institute thought it could not be written by Park Lao, but when asked, it was indeed a fake.

As far as the content of soothing ballads is concerned, it is not a bad thing to persuade the world to relax and avoid unnecessary troubles. However, the author doesn't understand the connotation of Buddhism, nor is he familiar with Pu Zhao's old life. Instead, he writes under his name and uses his influence to spread it. However, many people believe. Some people regard it as a "daily Zen machine" for "Zhao Puchu talking about Buddhism", and some people even spread it around on mobile phones, which has a bad influence.

Buddha said: "Bodhi is the cause, great compassion is the root, and convenience is the end". Writing about personal kindness and encouraging others is also a convenient way, but if you don't know the first two points, such "convenience" won't work. Buddhism requires all beings to be brave and diligent. When something happens, how should they get rid of it? A person who respects Buddhism should seriously understand the spirit of Buddhism, and respect Zhao Puchu not because he is a famous person, but by learning his words and deeds about Buddhist epistemology, world outlook, outlook on life and morality in his life.

Both the first and second examples are about Zhao Puchu, but their meanings are totally different. Zhao Puchu is aware of this phenomenon. 1June, 1998, when Mr. Zhao Puchu wrote the preface for the English version of Questions and Answers of Buddhist Common Sense and the illustrated book, he personally wrote the dialogue with Mao Zedong in the preface, using exactly the same words as what he usually said and what I published in 1993 Buddhist Culture. After telling the truth, he wrote: "Later, when I was writing the second chapter of this book, I remembered this unfinished question and answer." I think that the empty thoughts in the book may have supplemented what I wanted to say in front of Chairman Mao. " He wrote in Q&A: "Origin" means "All laws start from karma". Simply put, the birth of all things or phenomena is the relationship and condition of mutual (relative) treatment. Without this relationship and condition, nothing or phenomenon can be born. Karma, generally speaking, is a relationship and a condition. The Buddha once defined' origin' like this: where there is, there is, and where there is this life, there is an afterlife; If there is nothing here, there is nothing there; If there is nothing here, there is nothing there. This embodies the Buddha's saying that' seeing the origin means seeing the Dharma, and seeing the Dharma means seeing the Buddha'. "

Thus, the theory of emptiness is Zhao Puchu's most critical belief. In his letter to a friend 198 1, he said: "Thinking about the origin of diseases is really the core idea of Buddhism. We know it, but we often ignore it. Going against the sky is different. The reason why this talent regards illness as a good medicine. If all the laws in the world look at it this way, it is even more so for ordinary people to gradually enter the unobstructed environment to do Buddhism. There is no intention, no need, no solidity and no ego, which is Confucius' theory, but it is related to cleverness, convenience and reason. Without ingenuity and convenience, it may also become a violation of fate, and vice versa. In this way, pedestrians should not be negligent and always be cautious. I hope I can teach you when I am good at knowledge. "

Only those who know the origin of emptiness can truly get rid of "holding me" (not holding the word "I") and "enforcing the law" (not sticking to one's own point of view is the most reasonable) and understand the law that everything is caused by karma. Fate, violation, understanding and misunderstanding are all in karma, so that good karma can be planted, formed and produced.

Zhao Puchu's view of karma in this way shows his understanding of impermanence and selflessness, which is the basic spirit of Buddhism. At the same time, he also knows the true meaning of Buddhism that "all laws are empty and cause and effect are not empty", and he must "go forward bravely and be diligent" when implementing various specific things. He hopes that Buddhism will pay attention to all kinds of troubles and puzzles of all beings in order to get rid of the fundamental goal of life and death. For this reason, since the 1930s, he has been actively saving the country, providing disaster relief and helping suffering children, and has always done a good job in peace, friendship and disaster relief, which reflects his thinking on human Buddhism.

He put forward the concept of Buddhist culture, which has many details, reflecting his hope to embody the spirit of Buddhism in painting, music and architecture and play a positive role in all beings.

It is natural that a person has done so much work in such a long time and such a wide space and had such a great impact. Take the word "earthly Buddhism" as an example. People have different views on this issue, but because of its status and influence, it has not been publicly put forward. To this end, he once wrote:

Some people don't agree with the idea of human Buddhism, but they haven't seen it so far. Can you find articles with different opinions? I asked Buddhist friends in Shanghai to show it to me, but they refused, probably for fear that I would be angry, because they criticized me by name. Actually, I won't be angry.

I hope someone will write an article or several articles to explain the purpose of "Buddhism on earth", and I am willing to pay for it, regardless of French pronunciation or Buddhist culture. Entrust this matter to your laboratory.

To Comrade Jia Zhen.

In view of his concept of "Buddhist culture", some people also said, "Why should culture be highlighted in teaching?" He was not angry, but he was still friendly to the gentleman. But he still cares about and actively supports Buddhist culture. He found the ancient spectrum of "Looking at the South of the Yangtze River" in the Buddhist music of Wutai Mountain for Mr. Ching Tien, and was "overjoyed". He immediately extended it and wrote:

I want to use the discovery of the ancient music score of Looking at the South of the Yangtze River, can the latest issue of Buddhist Culture publish more articles and images of Buddhist music (many songs and dances in Dunhuang murals are Buddhist music)? At the same time, it seems possible to consider organizing a Buddhist choir. Please consult with Mr. Wu Lao and others. Liang Wudi's "On Buddhism with Positive Music" replaces the three sacrifices with pasta, which has contributed to Buddhism, music culture and vegetable diet culture. The imperial edicts of Liang Wuzhi recorded in the history books are mostly benevolent policies. Sima Guang is not good at Buddhism, and the imperial edict issued by Zi Tongzhi Bamboo Slips is extremely unfair. You can mention this person when writing an article.

As for tea culture, painting, calligraphy and garden art, they are all related to Buddhism. You can prepare several illustrated articles and publish them one after another.

Writing letters and books is a way to attract jade.

These are his daily work of popularizing Buddhism on earth, and he learned the fundamental doctrine of liberation from life and death, which he engraved in his mind very clearly.

1996 5438+00 In June, he wrote a will, requesting that his body be donated to the eye bank of Tongren Hospital, and other parts that can be used to treat the wounded and sick should be taken away by doctors as far as possible; Leave no ashes. After his death, his relatives scattered the ashes into the sea according to his wishes!

The words attached to the will are "born happy, die without regret." The flowers are still blooming and the water is still flowing. what can I do? Who will rest in peace? The moon is bright and the wind is cool, and there is no intention to find it, which reflects his view of life and death. "Now carefully read his thirty-two words, can let a person taste his life!

When Sakyamuni was a prince, he walked through four doors. When he saw old age, illness and death, he deeply felt the pain of life. He made a big wish to seek the true meaning of getting rid of life and death for all beings. After he realized the Tao under the bodhi tree, he told all beings the truth of emptiness. Buddhists are thus taught to understand the law of "the living die, and those who gather are scattered" and understand the principle of immortality and cycle.

Mr. Zhao Puchu inherited the Buddhist thought of emptiness. Only people with this spirit can truly "be born happy and die without regret", "the flowers are still blooming and the water is still flowing" and "the moon is cool and the wind is cool, and you get something for nothing".

"The flower is still blooming", and it is not the original flower that blooms again; "Water does not stop flowing", and water that does not stop flowing is cause and effect; "Bright moon and cool breeze, easy to find" is his wish, but "cause and effect are not empty", and future generations will always remember him and try to find his figure.

It's futile to find a figure. The key is to understand the spirit. Spirit reflects the karma between times and individuals, which will certainly give us inspiration.
