Zhang, Qiu Zhuo and Hai Rui, also known as the "four great talents in Hainan", are the "unique books" in Hainan's four unique books. He is especially good at calligraphy and painting, and is a famous calligrapher in Qing Dynasty. He was listed as one of the "Four Great Calligraphers in Guangdong" in the Introduction to Chinese Painting compiled by Qing Dynasty.
In order to spread knowledge and inspire people with lofty ideals, Zhang gave lectures in Qiongtai Academy, Yanfeng Academy, Yuexiu Academy and Zhaoqing Academy.
1842 On the 18th day of the first lunar month, Zhang died of illness. After his death, he was buried near Maotouling Village, Jiazi Town, Qiongshan, Haikou.
